A good, fun, light hearted look at blood sugar Tom! Funnily enough mine has been playing up for the past 3 weeks since I started adding a few keto recipes (Heavenly Fan channel) to reduce my carb intake. I’m guessing it’s the additional fats that are resisting the constant insulin adjustments to get myself back in range. It also doesn’t help having ‘dawn phenomenon’ which pushes my breakfast post prandial BS up into the 20’s. Oh well, smile, check and adjust!
Very recognizable. Especially the getting in shape part. Takes long for you body to adapt to regular exercise. Sometimes I try to predict future glucose levels. Eat a banana for going to the gym. And my levels spiking. Or having a stable blood sugar and you body increase levels due to the stress hormone that gets released when doing some lifting. Also got betters insights in how long it takes for insuline to have effect since I have a Bubble. Crazy.. and they call it ‘rapid working insuline’. Diabetes is a hassle, but in comparison to other illnesses we shouldn’t complain.
Hi Tom and thank you so much for all the time and efforts you have put into all your posts!! Type 2 diabetic with a quintuple heart bypass 5 years ago here. I want you to know you make a big difference in so many ways in all of us diabetic youtubers out here in YouTube land!! Please remember to be careful and stay very safe out there during these extra challenging days! I look forward to seeing and hearing every post! Have a blessed Christmas season!!
Haha enjoyed your video! My blood sugar behaves like a child.. Love it when it’s well behaved and does what I want it to.. Hate it when it suddenly goes out of total control and I can’t figure out why! And you’re right about all the planning and decisions we have to make every single day! 😅😅😅
Yes. It’s often happens when you got a sick)
That was really well said.
I agree with you.
Thank you.
Thank you Pavel! Appreciate your support!
Thank you for watching! I am glad you found a couple thing there you can relate to:) Wishing you a nice evening!
Yes. That is absolutely true. When I get sick my blood sugar goes out of control…
Thank you so much for sharing your story and all your support. This means a lot! Have a great evening!
That is true. I agree with your attitude. As I said in the video, normally I am not negative in my videos and I don’t want me complaining to become a tradition! This was a one of exception (creative idea);) Thanks for watching and wishing you a great rest of the weekend!
Thank you Richie! I appreciate your kind words and you sharing your tips and experience. I agree smile, check and adjust!:)
👏👏 Tom bravo on this video I cannot agree more 😂 I feel the exact same with the relationship with blood sugar levels 😂😂. Fighting the past few weeks with levels and no explanation to why .
You should do a poem about Mr. Blood Sugar!! Love it, perfect summary.
Thank u Tom for this video..Well I hate the culpability that brought to my life and all the dangers..I also hate the fact that for one year now I try to control it by myself with diet and some supplements and I failed..So I wonder now if I have to take Glucophage and make keto diet..what’s your opinion?
My wife is T1D and by far the best decision for us has been the shift to low-carb diet 3 months ago. Not too tight diet, but everywhere we can, we choose no-carb or low-carb solution. This means that we have left out all the quick carbs/sugars (e.g. potatoes, snacks, cookies, starch, white bread etc. etc.). We eat much more protein, (healthy) fats and veggies. Now, both of us are steadily losing weight without any struggle nor feeling hungry. The biggest challenge at the moment is to find the correct carb/insulin ratio for her, as obviously her insulin resistance has become much better; daily basal (Tresiba) need has come down at least by 1/3. And because we eat much less carbs, where earlier she has used 10-20 IU after eating, now the normal amounts are 3-6 IU and it’s much easier to take the correct amount of insulin. Blood sugars can be quite easily kept between 4-10 range and even on the lower side.
We are using Libre2+Miaomiao2+xDrip4iOS and without that combo this would not be possible. Waiting for her next Hba1c measurement, which should be much better than it has earlier been.
Thanks to Tom for inspiring content.
@villho Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your story. Wishing you and your wife all the best!
@Type One Talks Oh sorry man, it wasn’t a remark on your video. It’s my way of dealing with it. Keep up the great videos, they’re mighty helpful.
It is important to stay positive, but I’m glad you made this video. People like me, like to know we are not alone. We like to know we are not the only people having problems, and we like to hear that others understand just how difficult it can be living with this condition. BTW I call my jerk ‘Diabeto’ not sure why.
I struggle each day, at 50 now 🙂 with two kids 6&8 full of energy.
I’m very moody and the depressed most days. Lucky my wife puts up with me 🙂
Have to beat these bloodsugars!!! Enjoyed the video alot. Thanks Tom
I didn’t sleep last night, 2 hypo, 1 hyper and another 1 hypo alarms woke me up 4 times until early in the morning. 1000% agreed with you.
Great video: I’ve never considered “Blood sugar” as a person or the enemy before, although I often blame “diabetes” for things.
I particularly dislike having to eat at bedtime when I’m not hungry (to avoid a low, not necessarily a hypo)
Thank you for your kind feedback my friend! Stay strong!
Haha. Good idea! Thanks!
I have never went full on keto but a low carb diet helps a lot in my case. Wishing you best of luck!
Thank you Jamie. Say hi to your Diabeto:)
Thank you for sharing! Your wife must be strong and you too! Stay safe!
So sorry to hear that! Those sleepless night are tiring! i totally feel you pain. Thank you for watching and your support. Stay safe!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Yes, I hate that to especially after I have brushed my teeth:) Wishing you a great day!
😊
Off all the type 1 videos I’ve seen this one resonates with me most. All Utube type 1s never focus on the struggle. I’m type 1 at 31 and I need to your struggles. Along with this video and one from Michelle Lorde where she talked about therapy for her lows and the only thing help was years of therapy and of course a CGM. It’s not fair I don’t have a CGM and I fall asleep every night thinking I might be dead in bed.
I need to see** your struggles. Being perfect is inspirational but hard without hearing the fall. Please tell me more.
There is so much I can say… 😅😭
I’m 8.8 A1C right now went DKA at 11 was 99 pounds now 160 any exercise causes my blood to spike immediately then hypo 4 hrs later. Dawn phemonima wake up in the 300’s. No pump no cgm and have fear of low so I tend to ride the high 100 and low 200. America land of the free. Can I please be Swedish or something
“Your blood sugar wants to control you!” Ain’t that the truth, I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for 47 years and the last time I added it up I had taken in excess of 150,000 bGs! I don’t use a pump (can’t afford the supply costs) and therefore take 5 to 7 shots a day and have since I switched from NPH in 1981 to a basal dose and preprandial injections. I hate being a diabetic because I am an active outdoorsman and diabetes makes everything so much harder and complicated! So that’s the negative stuff. Now some positive thoughts. When I first developed diabetes in the early 1970s I used NPH insulin once a day. When you took that injection you were committed to a day plan that you couldn’t alter. If you took a lot of NPH you had to be inactive or risk a severe case of hypoglycemia. If, on the other hand, you took a small dose of NPH you had to be active even if the weather changed. Ever try hiking 10 miles in the poring rain? To make all of this much worse the only way you could even get a rough idea of what your bG was involved urinating in a cup, extracting 5 drops of urine with an eyedropper, dribbling it into a glass test tube, adding 5 drops of water, and then dropping an aspirin sized tablet into the test tube. You then had to wait 2 mins while the tablet reacted to the urine mixture. When the bubbling stopped and the mixture changed color you then compared that color to a color scale that rated the amount of sugar in the urine as low/medium/high. No actual numbers just low/medium/high. Now comes the worst part, the low/medium/high rating was not the actual level of sugar in your blood it was the amount of sugar that spilled into your urine 4-6 hours before you took the test. To say that all this work led to information of doubtful value would be the understatement of the century! So whenever I start feeling angry about my diabetes I remind myself of how bad things used to be. And if that doesn’t do the trick I remind myself that my diabetic father used a glass insulin syringe that had to be put in boiling water after each use and he had to sharpen the needle on a whetstone every day or two…
Thank you so much for sharing your story my friend! Your kind words mean a lot! I feel you and I am really sorry the situation with the insurance coverage in the US is so complicated. Stay strong my friend!
Thank you brother!
Thank you for sharing your powerful story my friend! Much appreciated! You have lots of experience with this everlasting blood sugar fight. Wishing you all the best!
Thanks for sharing that you are also human Tom 😉 that you also get annoyed with all those things which I also do!!! it really helps! 😉 I hate that I have decided to do something nice whatever it is, a gym session, or a walk with friends, or that I am in hurry…and Mr blood sugar has decided he got completely other plans for me instead 😉 oh yes and the I have to eat or take too much sugar when I for sure dont want to is also sooo f……annoying! ahhh that feels released now 😉
I just love this video so much! Thank you for putting BGL into words and a picture of what he does on a daily basis. T1D for 40+ years.
You are so welcome! I am so glad you enjoyed it. Stay safe!
Thank you for your kind words Carla and sharing your story! Means a lot! Wishing you all the best!
This is the one that made me subscribe to your channel.
I’ve been diagnosed with T1 almost 2 years ago, and only just now looking into communities etc where the struggles are known and shared.
I’ve been in a diabetes bore-out for the last couple of weeks, and the relatability of this video helped.
Thank you for sharing! I am happy I found a way to get you subscribed:)
Lol lol 🤣🤣🤣 you made me laugh. This is exactly how I feel most of the time. I’m constantly obsessed 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for voicing this, I feel so alone when I feel this way sometimes, nobody understands just how overwhelming it can be some days
Seriously thankyou Tom, B.S. just took an entire weekend away from me
You are so welcome! And sorry to hear about the weekend. Hope this week is going better for you! Take care!
Hi Tom! Really loving your channel.. Started out as Type 2, now 20 years later, transitioned to Type 1. This video really resonates with me.. What I hate about my blood sugar is the “rollercoasting”.. Highs and lows and little middle ground.. It’s tiring, to be sure!
May I simply say what a relief to find someone who genuinely knows what
they’re talking about on the web. You actually know how to bring
a problem to light and make it important. More and more people need to check this
out and understand this side of the story. I was surprised you’re not more popular because you definitely have
the gift.
Great work! This is the type of information that should be shared across the internet.
Shame on Google for no longer positioning this publish higher!
Come on over and discuss with my site . Thanks =)
Hey! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but
after reading through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Nonetheless, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back often!
naturally like your website however you have to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to tell the
truth however I’ll certainly come back again.
Hi there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m
having a difficult time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m
looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for
getting off-topic but I had to ask!
It’s hard to find well-informed people in this particular
subject, but you seem like you know what you’re talking
about! Thanks
Hi, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your blog in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that,
excellent blog!
Excellent website you have here but I was curious if you
knew of any community forums that cover the same topics discussed
here? I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get suggestions from other experienced people that share the same interest.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Kudos!
When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added”
checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Appreciate it!
What’s up, I would like to subscribe for this web site
to get latest updates, so where can i do it please assist.
What’s up to every one, as I am actually eager of reading this weblog’s
post to be updated on a regular basis. It carries fastidious data.
