Fat Burning Anti Aging Kitchen
Sharing with you the results of our little experiment into what is THE BEST RETINOL SERUM for face and neck and is RETINAL better than RETINOL?
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are working out what is the best retinol serum for face and neck with a little survey based on the 4 factors we consider when making a skincare purchase.
Retinoids are often called the gold standard when it comes to anti-ageing skincare as they have the ability to boost collagen production in the skin, even out the skin surface and tackle hyperpigmentation, dark spots and discolouration.
When it comes to choosing the right retinol serum for your skincare routine, lots of brands will claim theirs is the best so lets put 5 of the bestselling retinol serums to the test to work out which is the best for your anti aging skincare routine.
Geek and Gorgeous A-Game 10 – This is in my opinion the best all round retinoid serum when it comes to anti aging skin care. It balances a wonderful formulation with a great affordable price point and amazing results for taking years off the skin. The brand are totally transparent with the concentrations of the key ingredients and this has to be one of the best drugstore retinol products on the market.
Skinceuticles Retinol 0.3% – super expensive but quick to act retinol which will deliver fast results but the formulation can change country to country which is a shame as is the fact they dont share the full ingredients list on their website. Overpriced as there are other options which work just as well for a fraction of the cost.
Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 – One of the most popular drugstore retinol serums which is nice and light on the skin but with Olay not sharing with us the concentration its not clear what's actually in the retinol complex which the brand claims to be industry leading. Drugstore brand but this is one of their more expensive products and I think there are better more transparent alternatives.
Paulas Choice Retinol 0.3% + Bakuchiol 2% – A great product which uses a mid strength retinol with some bakuchiol to dial up the results without increasing the sensitivity. Beautifully formulated and whist it comes with a higher price tag than some others its worth it for the formulation.
Cerave Retinol Serum – No transparency here with CeraVe refusing to disclose the percentage of retinol in here and I didnt get great results so I think its on the lower strength side. I do like the ceramides and barrier supporting ingredients which are in here alongside the retinol and the price point is good but there are better products are the drugstore.
I would love to know what your thoughts are on any of the products mentioned today so let me know in the comment section below.

Hey guys and welcome to todays video where we continue our worlds best series this time taking a look at retinol serums and working out which is the best when you take everything into account. I would love to know any other retinoids you would like to add to this so let me know in the comments below.. NOTE: I chose the best selling retinol serums for this video but Olay, Skincuticles and Cerave are not cruelty free so bare that in mind when making your purchase – fortunately the two which came out on top are so thats win win win.. love you all so much xxxx
I’ve switched to G&G and loving it. Saving a lot because of your recommendation so THANK YOU, Rob❤️
Yay I am sos o glad its working for you hun, I switched and it was one of the best decisions I made.. love you x
Used up G&G 0.5. It is amazing. Loving it. Zero irritation. ♥️ Made two months break. About to restart with Paula’s Choice 0.3 with Bakuchiol. And build it up in the course of 4-6 months, with higher potency version of G&G🙌
I am so so glad its working so well for you hun thank you so much for sharing and sending you lots of love xx
Love this ranking Rob!!!… I always forget that formulations may change from country or region..??!… Therefore, achieving different results!!.
Something definitely to consider when buying new products 👍👍👍👍
your recommendations truely never fail me. i just bought the garnier spf you recently recommended and its fantastic. It does not pill with the rest of my skincare products and its such a big bottle for that price. amazing thank you
Personally the best retinol I have used is the Revolution skincare 1% retinol – drugstore price and layers nicely👍. I started with TO 0.5% but the squalene didn’t layer well and I was very disappointed with The Inkey list (not 1%!). I will eventually move up to try the Geek and Gorgeous A Game retinal 😁❤️
I do appreciate content like this, really helps, I’ve been using the G&G a few bottles now. Hope you had a good weekend Rob xxxx
I can’t believe there are still companies, that are not cruelty free 🤷♂️ especially the big ones sold in the UK.
Can the G&G be used around the eyes, in place of an of an eye serum/cream ?
By the way Rob, you are amazing 🤩
Unpopular opinion, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the G&G retinal, I’m not sure what I expected but I felt like other retinol serums were doing more on my skin and also I felt that it was difficult to get an even layer on the face (it tends to clump up a bit too). I may start looking into tretinoin, as I’ve never had any irritation from a retinoid product.
I mean, it makes sense that big companies would not want to miss out on profit that the Chinese market brings. Plus consumers there also want some good skincare so I feel for them often missing out just because of the outdated regulations of their country.
Another great informative video. I have avoided retinol products because of sensitive skin, but as a senior I need to add if I want better skin. I think I will give the Geek & Gorgeous A-game 5 a try. Since this my 1st retinal I will start with the lower dose and see how it goes. I really appreciate you for always telling us the info and what’s best and price choices and what works and how I can get some of those products here in the US. It is always frustrating when a product you recommend is not available here in the US. I admit, however, that more more products seem to be available worldwide which is great for the consumer. Thanks again. Stay well.
Hi Rob! Thanks for making this video!! How many times a week is recommended to use a retinol for anti-aging? Looking at that GG one now!
Have you tried Maelove’s retinal?
I have found Retinaldehyde is less irritating for my skin. I have tried Paula’s Choice 0.3 and Cerave.
Looking forward to try G&G.
I really like this video and I would love it if you would do more along the same lines rating other types of products in much the same way. Your scoring system is fantastic and unique, it really lets me know the pros and cons of each product in a way other videos dont. May I point out though that the Olay is a cream not a serum but they do have a serum in the line so I wonder why you didn’t rate it instead? 🤨
Just throwing this put there for anyone in the over 50 crowd.. I’ve been using the blue bottle CeraVe retinol (not the purple, no one says good things about that one) on my ARMS. It’s taken a while, but completely game changing. It’s completely stopped the thin skin bleeding and red bruising I suddenly began experiencing after menopause. It seems to have thickened up my skin in a good way and I love it! Tret on the face, retinaldehyde on my neck & chest, and retinol on my arms have done wonders for me!
I would add Roc retinol to the list!Did you know they were the first to stabilize retinol?Roc is highly recommended from a lot of dermatologists!
Hi Rob! I recently switched from Paula’s Choice 1% to the Youth to the People Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum based on one of your earlier reviews. I couldn’t be happier with it. It has made a very visible change to my fine lines around the eyes and has even helped with the orange peel texture on my chin. The best part is that I have experienced little to no irritation with the product. I have been trying lots of your suggestions and this is definitely my favorite. Love your channel!
I’m also on the AGame train, all thanks to you, of course!! Didn’t have the slightest irritation, loved the formula and looked great every morning after. Can’t wait to use it again! Thank you for putting so much hard work into these videos, Rob! Much love!
I love paulas choice 1% retinol and it really works for me and my husband. My skin is soso shiny glow and fine lines disappear after using it. You only need a pea sized and add 2/3 moisture ot cream( i add Cerace cream)
Awww thank you so so much hun and I m so so glad they are working for you.. love you x
Love everything revolution skincare they are so so good at the moment.. love you hun x
Hi hun, I would recommend using a couple of times a week and then working up from there gradually.. I use it nightly now but it took a long time to build to this.. love xx
Thank you so much for sharing and sending you lots of love xx
Love these videos! G & G A Game 10 all the way for me – great results, zero irritation & v affordable (thanks for the recommendation) ❤️xx
@Mad About Skin thank you!!
Thank you so much for sharing this information! I was about to ask what we can use on our bodies in the form of retinol. I will give the blue bottle a try!
Excellent tip! I too have massive bruising n bleeding esp on my arms
Great Video. Thank you! I started with the Paula’s choice you reviewed. Great product, but after over a year I switched to the 1%. A year later I cannot use it more the twice a week overall and no more then two times in a row. And I’m putting it on top of two layers of cream and 1 layer of rosehip oil. I use mostly Paula’s choice & was planning on going back to the backachoi but after watch this I will consider others. Thank you. I was also planning on putting Vaseline on before as per Dr. Shereene. But I may try others before doing that…
