Dental implants are marketed with the promise to change your smile and provide a new sense of self-confidence, but as implants surge in popularity, so do injuries. Last year alone, reports of problems with dental implants reached nearly a half million.

I haven’t even Started Researching Dental Implants. Your Investigative Report is Perfect Timing for me. I’ve only been Saving the Thousands of Dollars in a RSA I expect to Pay wondering How Much Excellent Work will be.
What they didn’t mention is how common it is for the screw that fastens the tooth crown to the implant post to come loose and have to be retightened through your life. Just more of an inconvenience than anything, but with a small financial cost each time. Additionally the screw can only be retightened 2 to 3 times before it must be replaced in order to prevent possibility of the screw breaking.
God Bless you Kris Pickel!!! this needs to be picked up by national news outlets
Use tic tacs. JB weld them and you’re welcome 😎
Thank you for this story! I just had two implants done two weeks ago. I trust my doctor and hope for the best!
A major part of the problem is the Arizona Dental Board, whose salary is paid from dental license fees creating an immediate conflict of interest, even in the most egregious cases votes no harm. One Board member in the September/December meeting tapes when it was suggested a license be suspended objected “now wait, these our our friends and colleagues.” The mission is to protect the public. The Board should be honest about their mission or forced to do their jobs. Enforcement is not a priority with the administration. This is the across the board story to talk about. There is no redress for those you are exposing were hurt.
I wish I had known this before, I am having serious problems with dental implants .
You asked “local experts” that are far from experts. How did you choose these guys? Because they have a “school?” This implant is probably angled too far…. OMG. Really? You must have AT LEAST 2 mm of buccal bone. This is basic knowledge. Ask the director of the periodontics department at the school and at least you’ll be getting somewhere. Not two guys in a denture clinic. I’m sure these guys are great at what they do but let’s please not use the word “expert.” That conveys a level of knowledge lacking in this video.
Teresa…. Ask to speak to patients that have had the exact procedure done years prior.
@Jackson Bean The way it was described to me by multiple doctors is that implants are put in to match the natural direction of the roots of your teeth. In my case it’s an angle that causes a cantilever effect with the tooth and the implant post. Over time the downward pressure of the opposing tooth loosens it.
@Ken Olson You’re exactly right Ken. If you have a cantilever from a long crown or bone loss (think vertical cantilever) then you can get screw loosening. Can you tell me the model of your dental implant if you care to? There are implants which we hand tighten and they never need tightening again. Those are implants with a deep conical, morse taper connection. The implants literally cold weld to the abutment in most cases but these aren’t typical questions asked by the patient but things are changing. If you can, have them remove any contact that’s not centered over the implant itself (very situation specific) or use some good ol’ loctite. I’ve used brands in the past that this is common and now luckily, this doesn’t exist in my office. Best of luck Ken and yes, implants should always be directed toward the opposing dentition which is the direction of force. Take care, JB.
@Jackson Bean Thanks for the additional info. It’s tooth #19 and #18 has been pulled and won’t be replaced. Tooth 19 is Zimmer tapered screw vent implant, 4.7 diameter screw.
@Ken Olson Zimmer is a great implant. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. In my experience, if you’ve had a custom abutment made and have a broad mesial contact to better resist rotational forces, it’s all about the occlusal contacts. If they’ve minimized everything but the central groove and you’re wearing a night guard each night, you’ve got one of those rare anomalies that’s no fun to deal with. Who would have guessed removing 18 could have such an effect? Best of luck Ken. JB
NEVER GO TO CLEAR CHOICE
One of my molars on my left side bottom only after 6 years old the screw broke in half and they said that the piece in my jaw be ok left in my jaw he said I can get another implant and will take out the screw and redo it . SMH . No insurance on it and I said well that’s 3500 down the dam drain. This was in March of 2022 this year . From fla
Why you think you need implant?? Because you say I’m not getting them now,?
(I m sorry if I write bad because I speak French sorry)
Excellent Reporting 👌👍👍👍👍!!!
Moral character and Good Ethics are Not….. requirements to where a white coat. We get this when we go to a car dealership or mechanic shop.
I’m concerned about implant screws from China that look like standard wood screw thread. They are listed as titanium but look like stainless . I saw Them as cheap as $3 . They say FDA approved but I found out many electrical items that have a CE approval stickers are not Certified but instead China claims it stands for China export
Very conflicting from the other dental implant video you posted. There are such things as early loss and late losses in dental implants which are required to be reported to the FDA. Early loss are almost always an injury and late losses could result in an injury as well. The 2% of device malfunctions is very different from the figure you posted in the last video, claiming 88% of dental implants fail. With a 2% device malfunction rate, longitudinally that just wouldn’t make sense. Also, unless it’s an injury, that wouldn’t be an adverse event! It’s very common (1/20) for patients to have SDR (Same day removals) for the implant which is misleading if you don’t say that because it suggests it could just randomly fall out at any given time. Simply not true and disingenuous reporting.
It’s very important to note that not everyone is a candidate (as this video states). But yes, where is the problem; is it the clinician, the patient?
51,960$ later 3 failed implants out of 8! Now I have 4 on bottom & 1 in top left and have to decide to get zygomatic implants that anchor to the cheek bone and that’s scary. NEVER EVER GO TO CLEAR CHOICE
@R is there even anyone of thinking to take same screw out and put it again?
I think the problem it s not the implant.the dentist they need more experience and learning the practical part than just have theorie and learn in patient and learn how to make money easy with coding exp gloves $100 implant in ebay $50 dentiste charge $4000 ect in name of licence and school for 5 years
I think carpenter will fix srew implant better than any theorical texbook smart.
