You forgot your wonderful gentle yoga for seniors series, Margaret. I woke up feeling terrible this morning. Now that I’ve done the yoga, I feel taller and stronger with my stomach muscles engaged. It’s a great start to the day.
I am 76 years old. I have been on Keto since December. I also do intermittent fasting. I’ve lost 9 kgs so far. I was pre-diabetic in December but blood sugar is very good now. No more high blood pressure either. The Ketogenic way of eating is the only way I am losing weight and discarding medications.
I really appreciate your helpful advise on how can we age better. Just as I have been doing Keto for 4 months, lost 40 pounds already and following most of the wise tips you mentioned in this video. I am thrilled about how great I feel at 64, full of energy and feeling younger than 20 years ago. Thanks again for making this video!
I lost 40lbs a couple years ago. A thin friend told me the first time she gained weight she didn’t like it so she chose who she wanted to be. So I chose, downloaded a free fitness app and kept track of what I ate. I won’t say it’s easy but I’m really happy with results. Vacation cost a couple lbs but I’m taking it off right away. I’m also very healthy now and my feet and joints hurt less.
Just discovered your videos. Love them! My goal for 2020 is to “ditch the black” and Sparkle and Shine throughout the New Year. I’m 75…thank you for the encouragement.
I started implementing these things in my 50’s and now at 66 I can say that I feel great, look better, and am happier.
For weight, these eight help you go back to basics, one day at a time.
1. Change environment: what surrounds you and get active as opposed to driving everywhere and parking close.
2. Smaller plates: use for main meal, get something pretty. Don’t have to finish all of your food.
3. Toss the TV: don’t spend too many hour in front of it.
4. Comfy walking shoes: make comfortable options a priority
5. Buy quality over quantity and savor the good stuff
6. Wear more fitted clothes: this helps as a reminder to stay on track with good body image practices
7. Ditch snacks: no after dinner or in between meal snacks, don’t even bring them into the house
8. Minimize eating out: cook so that you know what’s in there and can manage it.
A few months ago I started intermittent fasting and was able to get rid of about 12 lbs. I am staying with this because it helps me stay consistent in what, how much and when I eat. Thank you for your helpful reminders.
@Ruth Lopez wow!,are you on hangouts or gmai so we can always talk?
Lioyd Williams thanks for your sweet invitation to hangout. I would love to, but I keep very busy running our dental clinic with my husband at this paradisiac place. You are welcome to come and I could have you meet some very interesting people here. Where are you from?
@Ruth Lopez I’m still waiting for your reply
@Lioyd Williams I did answer you. thanks for your sweet invitation to hangout. I would love to, but I keep very busy running our dental clinic with my husband at this paradisiac place. You are welcome to come and I could have you meet some very interesting people here.
Suzie Q Thank you 🌸
Thank you for the awesome tips on losing weight. I’ve been having a heck of a time on trying to lose my extra 50 pounds since I hit the past 60 mark in my life. It’s so true now it’s a concern about you’re health and not just you’re appearance. I haven’t given up yet!!!
72 at last birthday. I have begun intermittent Fasting for the 60 + group. It has been slow but steady loss. I have tried many of the tips that you mentioned. MOVing being the best tip of all, I find the weight control easier on days when I work in the yard or walk. It is finally Spring in Maine and is now possible to move around easier. I have enjoyed your presentation.
Getting older…uggh. i threw my back out sleeping. Twitched my neck sneezing. I swear i am one fart away from permanent paralysis. Be healthy. Be happy. Rock on girls.
I’m 62 and lost almost 100lbs in 2017. Mostly eating healthy like fruits and veggies. No more pizza and junk food like sodas etc. Also added more walking and hiking. I’m happy to say I kept my weight off.
These are great reminders and also some new ideas! I’ve just recently started wearing baggy pants because my clothes are giving me a pain in the belly. You’ve made me realise I should just be trying to lose some weight! I justify eating too much by saying “at my age I deserve this” but in reality I know this isn’t a good mindset. I love your channel. Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate knowing there are things I still have control over. Up until December 2019, I was physically fit and had no problem with walking and steps. Unfortunately, I fell airborne on three steps, broke my knee and shattered everything below it. I hurt everyday but force myself to do steps and drive places. I’ve eaten way too much to be this sedentary and am ballooning in yoga pants.
I am 65 and I lost 58 pounds in 2020. I got a diabetes diagnosis in early 2020 and decided to change my lifestyle. Became a vegetarian and started walking every day. It was actually a nice experience. The trick is keeping it off! That seems to be the challenge for me. If I can do it, anyone can do it. It’s a lifestyle change and not a diet.
Good for you ! Anything worthwhile takes effort And you’re doing it.
@DIane of Paradise Acres Staying with. Clean keto you may not need those surgeries. Many people have been able to avoid surgery after being on Keto and getting their weight off, and their inflammation gone, and their health back.
@Cyndi Manka That’s WONDERFUL !! Keep going 🤗
@Cyndi Manka WOW !!
That is profound ! Soo True !
Thankyou for that. ❤️
Leto diet
Joy, I’m so glad you said that. I was watching a video from Dr. berry on osteoporosis and he was stating how are bones do not wear out as many Doctors will tell us but, are renewing themselves constantly. Many patients found after a keto diet that they did not need joint replacement surgery, and I hope Diane of Paradise acres is one of them.❤️

@paul ohlsson Goodbye Paul
I landed here because it came up whilst I was searching for weight loss videos. I’m 57 this year and am male, but the common sense information given here can benefit anyone and is a great reminder of those small steps that we can all easily take and make a difference. Many thanks
I started lifting weights at 62 with 3lb and 5lb dumbbells for arm exercises. Nice contoured arms boost that moral and its great for your bones too. Try squats as well, and no need to go too low, easy does it, but add extra reps.
I’ve heard of eliminating “white”, but what is ditch the black?
Great advice!! Incorporating little changes at home and while out really add up! One thing I do while waiting for water to boil for
Coffee is do toe raises. It has toned my legs and made me feel stronger. Do a little more each week.
I just turned 60 and have had chronic depression. The medication I had to take caused me to put on an incredible amount of weight. Now, med free, I am trying to lose weight and have been very sad at my appearance. I am very thankful for your encouragement and will start walking tomorrow. I needed a little push and a little encouragement. Thank you. 🙂
This is what I’m starting to do, Thank you for sharing 😊
@Denise W. hi Denise, thanks for your comment! Recently my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he is traveling to Texas to get the latest treatment. The top doctor there said that he should be doing resistance training (weights) because for some reason not yet fully understood, it has an anti-cancer effect. That’s from one of the worlds top doctors. Another good reason to get that daily exercise in! Best to you!
I’m a Yvonne too and am 69. I feel better when I fast during the mornings and eat better foods. Glad your routine is working for you!
Cool idea
@Anna hi Anna, I hope your husband is at MD Anderson. I’m biased, because I used to work in the Texas Medical Center at Baylor, but I think it’s one of the best – if not *the* best – cancer hospital. I hope you and your husband have only positive outcomes. Cheers.
@Brenda Tomlinson thank you Brenda, you nailed it! We live in the northeast near all the famous cancer centers but chose MDA and now have a near 100% prognosis. Best kept secret in the world! Plus people are so much nicer and care is personal and unrushed. Keep those dumbbells busy, people!
I discovered you today! I just turned 60. You gave a lot of good advice, thank you.
I will share my little journey with everyone. I am a Petsitter and dog walker. In March 2020 the lockdown brought my business to a screeching halt. I gained 25 lbs sitting around and watching Netflix.
In early 2020 I tore a rotator cuff muscle and spent 6 months in PT, which was the greatest blessing. PT reminded me that it is fun to exercise and set small goals.
In October 2020, with PT concluded, I vowed to hit the gym. I hadn’t been in 20 years.
Walking in your neighborhood works just as well but gym was the best way for me to monitor my goals. Also I added a fitness tracker app to log my food and exercise.
I chose the “boil a frog” method. I began very slowly, riding the recumbent bike for a few minutes. Going every day was key for me. I’ve progressed to walking the treadmill for an hour without much effort. My resting heart rate is 55. I can climb stairs without getting winded.
Within 6 months I lost 25 lbs, now a total of 27 lbs. Honestly it wasn’t hard. It took commitment of course, but like I said, baby steps.
I don’t guilt myself if I miss a gym day or eat a piece of cake. Move on and do better the next day.
Now I’m adding resistance training. I was hesitant at first bc of my shoulder. My doctor says it’s necessary to stave off osteoporosis.
My diet changes aren’t for everyone. I cut out ice cream. I added oatmeal for breakfast, which fills me up and helps regulate blood sugar. I eat a salad every day. I drink a protein shake. I don’t like much meat except chicken and fish. No more Splenda in my coffee.
I no longer crave sweets. I may snack on a handful of nuts, or plain yogurt, or hummus. Just stuff I already loved, so again no major changes. Logging everything you eat is truly an eye opener!
I didn’t mean to write a book! But hopefully it will motivate someone to start *moving* to improve their overall health.
@Anna Yay for a great prognosis! If I were to get a ca dx I would return home for treatment. I believe in MDA.
Good on you, girl! You’ve got this. You are worthy and you deserve to feel better and look amazing.
Hello 👋
How are you doing?

I agree I can walk across the living room and make my back hurt for months
Nothing better than a good laugh!!! Thank you!!
WKking is good for depression too. Try to have only nice thoughts while watching around. Think about the beauty of nature and animals. For me is kind of a walking meditation and has helped me a lot
😂😂😂
Don’t worry about the length, this is really inspiring and an important story 🙂 Hope you’re doing well!
@Julia Lednicky thank you 😊
@Shaifali Thank you Shaifali 🙏🏻
@Elizabeth yes you’re right, I like sweets as well, I put honey in my fruit 😋 and here and then some chocolate. But remember all in moderation.
That is awesome!!! How long did it take you? If I may ask?
@phyllis pinion almost a year from Feb. til Dec.
