Leg and back pain may be the result of a condition called lumbar spinal stenosis, which affects nearly 14 million people who are most commonly adults over the age of 60.¹² The significant pain associated with lumbar spinal stenosis, or LSS, can have a negative impact on individuals, causing inactivity, disability, functional impairment, and potentially loss of independence.
We are joined by interventional pain management specialist Dr. Iden Cowan at the Capitol Pain Institute in Austin, Texas, for a closer look at a safe, minimally invasive treatment. The Vertiflex™ Procedure† by Boston Scientific has been clinically proven to provide effective long-term relief from the pain associated with LSS.

I’m 24 with lumbar spinal stenosis from T12 all the way down to s1
I’m 74 years old and have spinal stenosis as well as us to arthritis and arthritis in my back I’ve been taking epidurals and I’m still in constant pain and the last one has left me sort of crippled I can hardly walk without my Walker and the pain is so bad that I lay all day and fall asleep this is no way to live so I ask if you can give me some suggestions please thank you
I wish they’d pay attention to the fact that people like me and others have this in their 20s and even teen years it would help if health care professionals were more on top of being educated about it but tbh it’s ridiculous that this is considered an elderly disease. It makes it seem like it’s an age related issue and normal deterioration but it’s not. Wish this on no one praying more awareness brings more education and a possible cure.
Is this done in Canada? Sounds amazing!
“…a decade into her pain journey
” Don’t childishly try to sugar coat real pain. Just say, “She was with a decade of pain.” No one in real moderate to severe pain wants to hear it referred to as “a journey.”
This was great and informative!! Thank you!!
@erenix got the weak legs. Its crazy
@draper78 your weakness around quads/knees, thighs, calves?
@erenix yes, and pain all-day. Hard to climb stairs
@Florence Pearce There’s a dr at Stanford University named Todd Alamein that operates on all types of back problems! Supposed to be the best surgeon ever!
@Florence Pearce that’s TODD ALAMIN
@Ronald Krikorian thanks for the information but is he in the United States
Also I’ll have to talk to you in another time it’s really late though and I getting quite tired and I thank you for contacting me and I wish you good luck with your mom
@Florence Pearce How are you doing?
Story of my life. 10 years and counting. I’ll be having a second spine surgery this summer.
I’m 48 and been dealing with this for over 6 years it’s very frustrating!! I had MRI over and over and each time they say yep it’s worse but nothing is done
I never knew people suffered with this until I got it myself…. 😳
I was diagnosed at 38, I’m 46. I was forced into long term disability w medical retirement at the age of 38. I was never on meds, went to 4 if I didn’t take the I suffered. I’ve had shots and I’m done. I struggle w depression. It’s horrible! Sometimes I can do what I want and have no problems but sometimes my back will go out and I’m screwed for a week, sometimes two. The last two times my back went out on me is because I would bring my ankle up to my knee to wash the bottom of my feet. So sad!!
Great story. Just had back surgery for the second time.
@Super Nova this is why I have been on my doctor’s butt to do all the tests but it seems like I have to do all the research and figure out what’s wrong with me. The government should pay us because they really don’t do hardly anything. We have to push the doctor’s to do their jobs. It sucks because it shouldn’t take 15 teeth years to get a diagnosis
I have severe spinal stenosis L3/L4/L5 with horrible neurogenic Claudication leg weakness and huge pain down the back of my left leg, on 1/20/22 I had a minimally invasive surgery procedure called vertiflex, the doctor installed 2 Superion spine spacers in between my vertebrae to relieve the pressure off of the side nerves, for three weeks I felt like a million bucks, now….not so much, something happened, the left leg pain is really bad when standing still, sometimes going so numb that I have to stop walking until my leg numbness goe’s away, I do all the stretching exercises available, I’ve done everything except a laminectomy which I really want to avoid, I can’t take opiate pain killers due to prior addiction issues due to Spinal Stenosis pain, I’m really at at Wit’s End here
I fell down butt first all the way down steps @the age of 20 i was 3 months preg. 10 years later 1st surgery fushion L3-S1. 10 years later steped in mole hole. When flipping down a hill broke a screw. 2nd surgery fix broken screw and fusion L2-L4 They back in for surgery to fix spinal cord. (Was leaking). My last surgery was in 2012 now im in so much pain all i want to do is lay. Standing hurts. Walking hurts the most. Sitting for about 2 hours tops. Has anyone had the steroid shots ? And if so do they even work ? Thats what the pain management wants me to try
I wish I could say that the Vertiflex procedure worked for me. This coming Wednesday will make eight weeks since my procedure, and I have seen no improvement. I had two implants. I have had my followup X-rays and the implants are in their proper position, but I still have to sit every five minutes and walking any distance is nearly impossible. This procedure is NOT cheap, and Medicare DOES NOT cover the implants, as this video states. I’m sure the procedure will help many people. Sadly, it just did not help me.
I’m disabled with this condition and have been in agony since my early 30s – my life was put on hold – I became a former shadow of myself and lost the ability to enjoy life as I once did. I wasn’t able to have children and have a career that I’d dreamed of. I wouldn’t wish this type of pain on anyone. It drops me at times and I literally have to lay down where ever I am – yesterday it was in a hardware store car park. Until your counting bird crap on the tarmac you don’t truly understand what chronic pain is.
Still waiting on you to contact us so we can help you manage your pain
Thank you, Toby. I love your gorgeous steel blue eyes. I can hardly wait to listen and watch your other videos. I have lower lumbar spinal stenosis and struggle to live pain free every day. Thank you for sharing your ideas!
Had it since 30
Was your first surgery any success at all? And if you don’t mind my asking how old are you? I myself am 76 and have also had spinal stenosis for over 10 years and it is getting worse as time goes by. I don’t know if I should go the surgery route or not as I do know several people that have done this and are worse off now then before they had the surgery. I have pain in my legs now that is making it hard for my to walk. Hope your second surgery goes well for you.
@Carol Ryan Hey there. My first surgery put me on that cane for 10 years. I’m 49 now. But guess what??? I had hip surgery in March and now I NO LONGER NEED THE CANE!!! It’s like a miracle!! Still doing the spine surgery on Friday. They are removing my stimulater and a cyst. For the second surgery I need this cage in my spine stabilize it’s crocked and pressing on another disc.
@Carol Ryan Sorry, to answer your question that surgery ruined me, but that’s not everyone’s story. I had a crappy surgeon who didn’t put me in physical therapy after surgery. That’s what ruined me.
I’m currently going through this and have been for the past 7 months. I am 22. I am numb from the waist down and can barely walk and keep my balance. Doctor keep ordering me more and more MRI and nerve conduction tests for no real answers to why.
Would really like more information on this procedure and what type of Specialist uses the Flex Procedure
Why do we have to wait so long to get relief?? why can’t we do this on younger people. I’m 53 and been dealing with this for at least 5 years, why can’t we have it done sooner so that we can enjoy our younger years
I’ve suffered since I was 15 but when I turned 25 things got severe and I ended up in a wheelchair so I found out I had lumbar spinal stenosis and 3 herniated discs ,but only 1 was causing me real issues. I had coflex surgery at 29 and I was mostly good for 8 months, woke up and could automatically walk , it was a miracle. 8 months later I’ve herniated again and I’m worse than ever and getting another surgery just over a year later. My husband now cares for me , I’m always falling over and struggle to move. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
I have both and I’m 58,I walk but itvhurts
This disease cause me depression, I’m a High School teacher and I need to walk a lot and use stairs to move from a classroom to other, it’s so frustrating.
They want me on naproxen. It does nothing for my pain . My body feels very old and it’s hard to get people to understand.
@Lesa Sewing Room Well let me ask u something have u ever been to a pain clinic ?
@Robert Lennihan Do they give u any thing for ur pain ?
This is unbearable had it for years.24/7 pain debilitating
Had it since I was 25 and lived with it for most of my life. I’m now 61 . What has helped are the meds and excercise.
look up heckla lava for stenosis maby it might work. good Luvk and God Bless
@Jackyblue67 Same yes I have. And PT has been what they always refer me to do. And the worse thing about that is that my back went out on me while I was there at my session
I am just now seeing this video and I am now a 76 year old woman who has severe spinal stenosis and I agree with you because when I think back I actually started in my late teens having back problems so now of course reading your post I am wondering if that was in fact the start of spinal stenosis. I have had back issues all my life but in the last 10 years it has gotten really bad and had the MRI in 2020 and it showed the severe spinal stenosis.
So sorry
Hi. I had the surgery and I’m still in pain I’m with u I understand I thought I was the only one with it I have to lay down to get relief like u said where ever I go I got to lay down im 58yrs old had surgery 6 months ago still in pain and I need to get back to work asap
Same here. Took my life away

Furthermore, i believe that mesothelioma cancer is a exceptional form of melanoma that is usually found in these previously familiar with asbestos. Cancerous cells form inside mesothelium, which is a defensive lining which covers the vast majority of body’s internal organs. These cells generally form inside lining on the lungs, mid-section, or the sac that encircles one’s heart. Thanks for expressing your ideas.

Thanks for these pointers. One thing I also believe is the fact that credit cards offering a 0 rate often entice consumers along with zero interest, instant acceptance and easy on the web balance transfers, however beware of the number one factor that can void your 0 easy road annual percentage rate plus throw one out into the very poor house quick.
Thanks a lot for sharing this with all of us you really know what you are talking about! Bookmarked. Please also visit my web site =). We could have a link exchange arrangement between us!

There are actually plenty of particulars like that to take into consideration. That may be a great point to deliver up. I provide the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions just like the one you carry up where a very powerful thing can be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, but I am certain that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game.
