Hi Angie! Love this. I’m a 53 year old personal trainer and have been in this profession since my late 20’s. The absolute best thing a woman can do is lift weights, and lift heavy. Muscle mass is crucial for overall health as we age and definitely helps a lot with metabolism. It’s super rare for the average woman to get bulky from lifting heavy. I lift very heavy and I’m a very slim body type at 112 lbs and have been lifting for 30 years. I’ve never had a client get bulky and they were unhappy with their body. So to anyone reading this regardless of age…lift weights! Your future self will be so happy you did. And it’s never too late. My oldest client was 86 and independent and thriving. You’re so inspiring Angie. Thank you for all the ways you’ve changed my skin care. I’m so grateful ❤️
I LOVE THESE WOMEN’S HEALTH VIDEOS, Angie!!!!! I’m not even perimenopausal, but these videos are a Godsend for younger women to have an idea of what to expect going forward. This channel is a gem for so many reasons. Thanks again, Angie!
I’m 50, post menopausal. Angie is spot on. It takes consistency and work- dedication. If you care enough, you can do it. Small, gradual changes is key. Focus on health over weight loss. You will feel so much better you will be motivated to keep going! I’ve been fit my whole life but had to get next level disciplined to keep my weight down. The weight crept up over a few years without me noticing until I did. Then I slowly fixed up my diet and it works. Great info, Angie, as always!!
Thanks so much!😘
You are so inspiring Angie–my goodness, this was so spot-on in terms of providing key information we can implement right away! Also, I am soooooo very EXCITED for you, getting ready to reach 1 million subscribers! It is so well deserved!
YESSSS! Agree with everything she said. I am 48, post menopausal, and a cardiac nurse. Listen, our bodies can heal so many issues when we eat the right food! Stick to the perimeter of the store and include lots of color with your produce! I so wish our healthcare system would educate people about this!
LOVE “focus on health over weight loss.” I’ve been trying to do that for past month and weight is coming off! I’m a chronic yoyo’er since I was 15. Now 55 and want…need to stop that madness of up and down. Want to get off some of my blood pressure meds too so really trying this time to not focus on number of pounds, etc but feel have been brainwashed for so many years with trying different “diets” and not thinking just in achieving a long term healthy lifestyle.
Thanks Angie for these realistic tips! It is all helpful, I do the same at age 67 and I feel better than I did at age 45. So glad to see you thriving in a new home — independent and healthy.
Thanks for the update hon 💓 I have adopted most of these changes in the last 10 years alon with some intermittent fasting. I think of them as part of my retirement plan and at 63 I am in the best shape of my life – it is totally worth it. BTW to get bulky muscles it takes hours a day so a few sessions a week are super healthy and toning as Angie said. Women have smaller shoulders so really important to keep that strong for posture and holding us upright 🥰 muscle also burns more calories. Eventually you feel great – keep going adding things to avoid old people injuries and enjoy retirement 💓
Same here at 63 – can’t believe it 😍
I have been following you for the last 5 years, since I turned 50, and I can only say “Thank you so very much Angie”. All the information and insight you share has made menopause easier for me to deal with. I find You, Dr. Barbara Taylor, and Dominique Sachse to be my three musketeers when I am feeling frustrated with menopausal ‘things’. Thanks again for sharing your insights. Stay well and be blessed 🙂
This is a great find! Informative and inspirational. The food at the end looks delish, and I love that you included some vegan/vegetarian dishes. I think making your food delicious and workouts FUN is a huge way to inspire yourself to stick with it! Dance fitness and weight training, as well as cycle and roller skating have kept me rocking and rolling into my late 50’s. Keep up with your frank discussions for incredible women over 50! We are to be celebrated, and deserve our own loving and care.
ONE MILLION! You did it! Congratulations Angie. This is well-deserved.
All my skin care day and night is based on your recommendations! I am 55 years old and my skin looks amazing. Thank you for all you are doing with all the women that follows you. You so deserve to get 1 million… and this number will grow bigger girl! Thank you for all the content you gice to us! With gratitude Lucy
I’m 57 and I stopped eating meat in 2017. I eat about 75% vegetarian, want to go vegan in the very near future. I plan to work with a very good nutrition specialist to improve my overall health. You look absolutely amazing Angie!!!❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations-a-million, Angie! I’m sure you’ve said this in other videos where you describe HRT but it is very important for everyone to check with their MD before they do hormone replacement therapy.
Some women’s bodies do not do well with estrogen exposure & menopause is actually healthier for them/us, strange as that may sound. 😊💃
Great video Angie and I loved your meal tips!!
I’m already “on the other side” at 51. So I’ve got an early start at trying to beat the belly bulge and the loss of muscle etc. I’ve recently gotten back to the gym or using weights more at home !
I love yoga and Pilates too!
We can all do this 💪🏼 ❤️
We can!!
Thank you for doing this video Angie! You look fabulous! I’m 67, 15 years post-menopausal. I take no HRT and take no drugs whatsoever but do take some supplements, food-based and mostly herbal. At about 10 years post I noticed big changes in where my weight was distributed. I’m a whole foods vegan-18 years and before that vegetarian for 20 years. I’ve also practiced fasting and intermittent fasting most of my adult life. I’m 5’5″ 115 lbs. I’ve stayed the same weight pretty much my entire life but these last couple years gained 10-12 lbs. I hadn’t been fasting or doing my beach walks or bodyboarding. I could not get that 10 lbs off. What made the big difference for me was moving again, specifically mountain biking! I ride at least 2 days a week. I push hard up hills which gets my cardiovascular system working, gets me sweating out toxins and is my HITT for the day. Riding was a game-changer for me…10 lbs dropped within a month without changing anything else! I am now starting to add in yoga, trampoline, weights, resistance, etc. so that I can up my riding skills. A side bar is the weight distribution, while not like when I was 50, shifted a bit as well. I’m not a sweet eater, no cookies, candy, ice cream, etc. but I do love my carbs. I still eat carbs just a tad less and balance them with a ton of dark leafy greens and fiber foods. I’ve also added a daily drink with aloe juice, beet powder, wheatgrass powder, pomegranate powder and fresh lemon juice…it’s a bit gnarly but it gives me a boost of energy! Good sources of non-animal protein are: lentils, beans, hemp seeds, Spirulina, sprouted grains, soy milk, oats, chia seeds, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, Brussel sprouts, seitan, tempeh, edamame, dark leafy greens and brown rice pasta. I make great quesadillas using Violife cheddar, refried black beans, brown rice, sautéed kale or spinach, on sprouted tortilla, after finished heating I then add 1/2 of an avocado and fresh mixed greens. : ) Please make sure to alert people about wild vs. farmed salmon…NEVER eat “farmed” salmon!! Thanks again Angie for your straight forward information!
First off congrats on hitting 1M! I watched this with a big smile on my face because YES you laid it all out perfectly. I’m 59, now a personal trainer helping women get moving even as the aches and pains of age creep in. I’m at my ideal weight but it takes WORK. I do exactly what you’re talking about and don’t fall prey to the marketing crap out there. That’s why I’ve followed you for years because you’re Real. With your reach I’m praying a light bulb may go off for other women and they realize you can’t do what worked in your 30s (without getting hurt) AND you have to make changes in order to see results because our bodies are different AND there is no magic pill. It takes hard work and saying no to those things we know are bad for us. That said like is short and splurging every once in awhile is ok! Thanks again!😘
Yes, consistency is key. I’m trying more HIIT workouts.
They are the best… I’m always sharing my menopause story and would love to know if there’s anything else you would like to know that you haven’t seen talked about anywhere else
Hi Angie! I am going through the exact situation. Thank you for being honest about post menopausal reality and for doing the research behind possible help for this annoying weight gain.
why would you want to take out a whole food group
Well said: I like “had to get next level disciplined to keep weight down”. I can totally relate.
Thank you for this Angie! I’m betting you’re a Libra like me. My downfall is also sugar and I still have little kids because I had my last kid in my 40’s so it’s so hard to avoid eating the sweets. I just started on this menopause journey at 50, started skipping periods and noticing those pesky changes which I’m not too happy about as I’ve always been thin and fit with very little effort. I know I need to make some changes and will be following you!
I never believed my body could change so much with menopause. It literally seemed to pile on overnight. I hardly recognise my own body. This video has really given me hope and so much vital information. Thank you.
I was a late bloomer in life to begin with due to childhood trauma , so to be post m. Now at just turned 45 , it feels like I never got to fully live yet but now my body advanced twenty years without my permission 🤪
@gildedgirl Yes, it’s so disheartening! Good luck to you, too. 🙂
@Naomi Calian Sounds like you have got a lot going on! I hope you will gain some clarity and get back some control of the situation. My hot flushes didn’t start until a few years ago, in my fifties. Such a shock! 🙂
@Hannah Green ty ☘️🌹
@Hannah Green thank you 😊
So true. Most research regarding women is when they are in their fertile years, not post-menopause. So little research, data, and information, which is a shame, because women still have another 20-30 years of life. That’s a LONG time to live with elevated risk of heart disease and bone density loss.
I so agree .. at 66 I think I am better shape than when I was younger. I used to not splurge..then I would not eat the special dish or dessert and then eat five things trying to satisfy my craving..now I just go ahead and have a small serving. We do pretty much eat a Mediterranean diet…truly to get exercise five days a week..even things like push mowing..not power assisted either.
@Teala Not wanting to be part of the horrendous cruelty towards other creatures, in my case.
@Precocious Sceptic you should go to a dietitian. They would know the correct supplements for you since you’re taking if a whole food group out of your diet.
Let’s face it-we’re conditioned to love the processed stuff with sugar. No matter what our doctors say, cookies taste good!😬😢
I’m 53 years old and in menopause. I was on keto diet and intermittement fasting last few years and I’m on carnivor and intermittement fasting last 30 days. Both are very helpfull for me because I’m very lean (thanks to that) and I haven’t got belly fat at all. Also, I’m doing some workouts at home every day, about 30 minutes. Thank you very much.
Hi @LucyClark… Lifting heavy means heavy for you” — it’s a relative term (like spicy). It means the final 2-3 reps of an exercise should be challenging to complete with good form. For example, if you’re doing 12 reps of a biceps curl, the last two should be really hard to finish. 😊
@PthaloGreen2 I’m a fan of pickles. Cookies are good once in a while, but I crave salty, garlickly, crunchy over sweets.
Great advice! Love your diet I follow mostly the same diet.
Hi, I went vegan but I increased a lot carbohydrates in my diet due this, how can you manage to keep carbohydrates level low? I don’t take any HTR, but I take thyroid hormone because of a carcinoma and my gland was partially removed. My belly fat increased a lot, I’m on a keto..low carb diet now, but it’s really hard, any suggestion? Thank you
@María Carrillo LOVE, LOVE, LOVE CAROLINE GIRVAN!! Found her 1 year ago and have Gained so much strength!
Sorry to say, but I got bulky doing weight lifting, I enjoyed it and gradually added more weight for lifting, and finally I noticed that I have pretty bulk of muscles. Due to health issues I am not able to exercise last few years, but it’s still there…. I know muscles are not bad for my health but its there , I never wear short sleeve of anything and when I were pants it’s obvious that I have so much muscle around my thigh .
Is there a difference when it comes to traditional strength training or weight lifting vs powerlifting? Do they change the body differently physique wise? Or are they pretty much all the same?
@Teala What food group is being taken out? All your needs can be met through eatng plant based.
@Nflower Celik-Alvis yes I can swear by Heather Robertson and Caroline Girvan. they both are life savers 👍
@Bonnie Martin b12, Magnesium amino acids. You would have to eat three times as much food to get with meat 🥩 gives you
Same! Absolutely the same. And none of my old techniques worked.
