1st- Make a decision to break the sugar habit.
2nd- Quit cold turkey.
3rd- Don’t drink your calories, eat them. Eliminate soda, ect.
4th- Add protein to every single meal.
5th- Eat the right carbohydrates for 10 days. Only non-starchy vegetables.
6th- Manage your stress.
7th- Quit gluten and dairy for 10 days.
8th- Get at least 8 hours of sleep.
It’s insane that sugar is so addictive. Why is something so good, so bad lol

Successfully completed 30 days without sugar/sweets and began a diet. Lost 12-13 pounds in that month. Didn’t eat any sweets and only had granola as a snack on the side. Had a slice of ice cream cake to celebrate the month and now transitioning to having a sugary snack once a week. Once I had my cake I felt some cravings come back but I’m used to kicking them away now.

Here’s my take on it – don’t bring sweets to home.
Although, when I am stressed, I go out to look for sweet, but it definitely takes more effort and I have time to doubt and rethink.
Dr Hyman, thank you for your dedication to saving our lives. I watch you daily whether it’s a radio show or interview, etc…your determination is contagious and give hope to those of us that suffer because of the effects of the many poor choices we all make with our food choices. I imagine you beating the sh** out of those greedy individuals who’ve gained financial wealth by harming innocent individuals that trust those industries that have sold out our health and happiness by peddling garbage like High Fructose Corn Syrup and putting it in every type of food ever made. I pray they will suffer horrible deaths, but I’d love to see you punch any of them out. I’m not typically violent but I am pissed. You are a Prince! Thank you!

Sugar addiction is most common addiction in the world.
But strange part is that many don’t consider it as addiction.
I’m starting from today. I realize that baby steps have ALWAYS worked for me. I subconsciously quit soda and eventually started being vary of it. This was before i decided sugar was an addiction for me. So from today no sugar for me. My main problem is the chai tea that i drink 1-3 times a day. If i can get through that.. i can do anything.
I stopped just over 2 months ago. It is very true that the more you eat the more you crave. Literally had to fight the cravings and distract myself all the time. After about 3 days the cravings stopped. I only have a very small amount of anything sugary now, and only occasionally. I was having a ridiculous amount before that ….well it felt like that to me, though probably not as much as my husband is still consuming. It was mainly chocolate with me.
We are going off sugar–it’s going well so far, and I agree that cold turkey is the only way to go. I’ve tried many times in the past but if I slip a little sugar in, the addiction always comes back full force. So no sugary/floury treats, not even one little treat per day. I hope this time I can get through the first 10 days!!
I just skipped the birthday cake at a party. People thought I was an alien. I’ve been free of refined sugar for 30 days, also free of grains, potatoes, complex carbs. Following this diet, I’ve lost probably about 15 pounds. I have more energy at the gym, and I feel like I’m in college again.
I’m a vegetarian who doesnt eat many high cal or unhealthy foods, except for sugar. I always have ever since I was a little kid, it’s like my comfort item. Unfortunately I binged on it a lot this month due to my eating disorder. I havent gained any weight at all. But it makes me feel so sick. I’m rly hoping this will help me

* *It took a MONTH for my sugar cravings to cease!* * That was the tough area for myself. Mostly, after dinner I’d want a nutty-buddy peanut wafer crunch bar (Little Debbie, I believe they’re called).
Yes, I DID quit cold-turkey. My physical was last week and the doctor was impressed with the bloodwork. He asked me how:
– Borderline fatty liver is no longer.
– Cholesterol levels are back in check.
– Blood/sugar is within normal range.
– Blood pressure still a bit high at 148/85 (normal for someone in their 60’s is 140/80).
– Dropped 20 pounds (10 kilo).
– And I’m training for a half-marathon in the spring (13.1 miles / 21 km).
– All this was accomplished over the summer and fall of 2021 *- WITHOUT -* medicines.
Starting tomorrow
Just “officially” ended the detox, but I’m gonna stick with it! Cutting out sugar made me realize how it made me want more of it the second I had some. I’ve lost noticeable weight in just 10 days because cutting out sugar actually made me think less about food overall and it was strangely much easier to just eat 2-3 meals a day. Best weight loss/health advice I’ve ever had

It’s been 30 days since I cut out sugar, dairy product, vegetable oil and I still have to come back here every night because my craving hasn’t leave me alone and I come here to remind myself why I started. Don’t give up. We are not going this far just to go this far.

Then the doctor prescribed me antibiotics. So addictive. My mother didn’t want me on them. Quit sugar got back on it. I’ll stick with it this time. I can do it. So can you
@Philicia Danielle weed is a drug. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Drugs aren’t inherently bad.

From my own experience in quitting sugar, re-introducing it in small amounts is like a recovering alcoholic re-introducing alcohol in small amounts. It doesnt end well. This from someone that has quit sugar completely several times only to be pulled back in applying the same logic as the OP.

@Lorraine Hutter main stream media is saying we have a famine coming because we might lose the grain from ukraine, people forget that grain is not the only food, though it is one of the most unhealthy and people should stop eating it. for now i am baking my own bread but using healthy ingrediants, but once i get the carbs and sugar out of my system and the addiction cravings, yes, most of our hunger is addiction to carbs and sugar, i think you already know that, after i get them out of my system i might stop eating bread altogether

@D. Leighann Batemon Fennel is awesome. Look up an image it’s widely available. Cut it up and add to stews and really tasty with kidney beans and tomatoes. it’s also better than carrots as a snack

There’s a great little book on natural healing written by an older man who cured himself of a number of maladies without medical intervention, called My Physician, Myself. I read it a couple of years ago but lost my copy. I’m going to Amazon right now to order one and be more careful with it. It’s more than worth the read. @missakialexandria dairy is very addictive. I was addicted to it until I became intolerant. I never even liked the taste , I just couldn’t stop eating or drinking it . Idk y . 🤔 it took forever for me to kick the dairy addiction, even when it gave me a very upset stomach and digestive issues

@creationoflove84 same for me, now i finally got all the sugar / carbs out of me, including the hidden, i seem to have even lost interest in bread, hunger, cravings, even the craving for fruit has gone, it is a release/relief. i seem to be eating much less now and thinking about eating a lot less

Good for you Katherine Bell! Sugar addiction is REAL, seems like it’s ALWAYS on my mind and I image it’s like stopping hard drugs. My body can’t get enough and it’s very hard to stop.
@Paula Archuleta i think i have finally stopped it, now my hunger and cravings are gone, i think the only way to get off the addiction is to stop eating it but that is difficult because it is in so many foods and even hidden so you don’t know your eating it and you have to get it out of your system to stop the addiction, it takes deep research to find most of it, alternative names, E codes, i had to give up fruit ( very difficult ) bread, root vegies like potatoes and as you know, much more, i have found some alternatives to mashed and potatoes, spaghetti and bread, everything processed has to go, finally i feel released but there are still dangers, memory, emotion, environment, social interactions, they all make us want to eat, the battle is not over for me, just easier. have to learn to like new foods
