With blue science set up, Bentham can begin researching improvements to the oil system, but while he waits for these he begins working to reduce pollution as biter's attack once again. By shifting the steam engines to the coast and beginning work on solar power, the pollution cloud will hopefully expand no further, and Bentham's factory and future rail empire will be safe.

A good way to use up your wood is wood-fired trains. They work surprisingly well, especially later in the game when you are clearing whole forests with bots.
Also, fish! right click on a fish near the shore to catch it and then left click on your power ranger dude while its in your hand to heal yourself marginally. It works well for early early engagements.
I always setup a fuel injection system, that looks like this.
A straight belt on the start there are chest on either side that load wood on it. A bit later coal get fed on both sides after that solid fuel.
This makes wood have priority to get on the belt, followed by coal and solid fuel the last. Now this belt runs to my steam engines and early game to the train station and furnaces. Now you just dump your spare wood in the chest that feeds to the burn line and you get rid of all the wood. Later those will be requester chest.
And i never get rid of my steam engines. I rarely build any solar panels at all.
@***** well there is plastics and capsules.
You are the best factorio player I have even seen.
I know this is a few months old, but I thought you might like to know that the best ratio for boilers to steam engines is 14 boilers for every 10 steam engines.
I’ll make note of that for future. The 5-4 ratio I was using would have a temperature of 98ish when running at full pelt, and i was wondering why.
Awesome series, though i’ve played A LOT of factorio, there still is much to learn!
The smart inserter system is quite brilliant. Personally, I like to place my electric mining drills right next to each other in parallel lines and have that feed into my furnaces. Also wouldn’t you consider holding off on solar power until you have the construction drones to automaticly build a cheaper, compacter version of the solar plant?
Not to sound like a wiseacre, just points you do differently.
P.S.: Iron chests rule.
Not sure if this was said or not, but the giant “apple” I think is actually a peach. Perhaps one of the devs threw in some code to honor the movie James and the Giant Peach?
Like the resource flow plan. I think once I have the rail systems feeding the ore to my electric furnaces I’ll rebuild the factory off this…octopus? hydra? root? design
drink when he says, so anyway.
Nice video, even if I see it NOW… 🙂
“Giant dealt piranha fish” this made my day XD

Every time you build Steel Furnace fluffy kitten dies somewhere in the world. If you can build Electric Furnace but build Steel one three kittens die. Stop building Steel Furnaces! Save the kittens!!!
No, no, that’s what iron chests do!
@MangledPork Gaming
No way. Right now I have a base on map with no forest at all and very tiny iron patch near starting area. I cannot use wood to make chests because it all goes to small poles. And I cannot build steel chests because I badly need rail going (I found another iron patch quite far away). So my only good option is iron chests :). Ta-da-a! 😀
But there is no excuse for Steel Furnaces. Those are pure evil and waste of resources.

New ratio is 12 to 10, 13 to 10 works, but its only a little better

Thanks. I’m now very hydrated.
