In 2019, the British Army will certainly introduce new Physical Employment Standards (PES) for all soldiers involved in close combat duties. So, gone are the British army's old sit-ups, press-ups as well as 1.5-mile run test, and also in come keeping up tools, dragging casualties as well as lorry casualty removals.
These modifications are designed to see to it soldiers are battle all set and also conditioned to carry out. However just how tough are these examinations? We deployed our jr electronic author, Daniel Davies, to figure out.
Do they still do the 60 sit ups and press ups and straight after the 1.5 mile run under 10 mins ?
That was the basic fitness test when i was in weather you were a chef or a full combat soldier everyone had to do that and pass it every few months.
These are tasks with a physical element!!! rope climbing, press ups, sit ups are a true test of fitness, standards have declined beyond any recognition from the 80’s that is without doubt.
It’s been made easier in my opinion! The time for the mile and a half run has been increased also! It’s ridiculous! No wonder there is a recruitment crisis!
The Army now has the AFCT which is an APFT plus this.
I did my selection for the British army in 2008 carrying the water cans and the 70kg dead lift are not new things also the 70kg dead lift looks easier as when I did it you had to lift it above you’re head and hold it there for 3 seconds so if anything this is easier than it was in 2008 .
“The army is full of ridiculously fit people” 😂
The whole idea is to make female recruit to wiz pass selection mate. Think..
it is designed to be gender natural and equal for all ages. each role in the army has their own specific testing criteria based on said role. and women definitely do not a relaxed deal out of it. it comes into force in jan 19 and supposedly takes about 5hrs to complete all the tests. and just to clear up, its conducted in combats, boots, helmet webbing and daysack with weight.
I did all that at 16 years old 😂
they all make sense except the casualty one, if your under fire your adrenaline is enough to carry him 100M lol
“Can you lift a teacup?”
“Yes”
“YOU’RE IN”
Sure can, did it all after a nice 8 mile warm up with kit
OMG. It’s basically a day at the stables working with horses! Dragging haylage, picking up saddles, hauling water buckets, carrying saddles, rising trot… but without half a tonne of horse trying to do something else at the same time!
Funny how they missed out the hardest parts of the test
People worried that having women in combat roles would lower the standard… They actually raised the standard of army fitness.
Can see where the arm chair generals have been deployed when ya check this comment section
People go on when they have no clue, I’ve just come back from catterick and you still get beasted still do log/stretcher runs still do hard bayonet training and still do 4/5/6/8 mile tabs
@Taryn Turner really is the Barb test hard
akel Mcphie I didn’t find it hard. Real simple tbh
Ive got this next week iv asked my nan for tips as she passed this last year after a hip surgery
Most people commenting on here don’t have a clue. Here’s the reality… You’ll do PFAs as a regular pt session sometimes even if you’re in date because someone will think it’s a good idea to do one. You do regiment PT three times a week including Co’s PT which is usually an absolute beasting (log, stretcher runs, 10 mile tabs) although sometimes it will be a lovely (honking) circuit. you’ll also do an AFT (8 mile) tab on some sessions Even if you’re in date. Your life is made very difficult if you do not meet the standards you’ll be placed in a remedial troop ‘fat camp’ biff troop where you can look forward to early rise PT and 3 sessions a day until you get your act together. At my unit if you don’t get your act together and keep failing fitness tests you will be kicked out. Don’t be mistaken by the soft image…the army may have modernised but the job remains the same after all this is the Army.
Did the new “test” at my unit a few weeks ago. Proper joke, especially the run, me and 2 mates literally jogged the 2km with no effort whatsoever in just over 11 minutes. Still had 2 minutes to spare. I think you could literally walk 2km in 13 minutes.
i can lift two
Special Forces 8000 confirmed kills
2km = 1.75 miles. Bloody hell, you could CRAWL that in 13 minutes. That can’t be correct, surely?
Live Free I completely agree lowering the standard is counter to our national interests.
My initial selection just to get to basic training was 2 day beasting/tests and an interview that was more like an interrogation before being invited to join the army.
1.24 miles? Christ I’m running 9min miles at 91kg
