I’ve had mid back pain but when doing hypopresives in standing position. Any clue on it? Could it be related?
I would have to see you perform one to be positive about what is going on.
I’m 14 and tbh I think I got this bc of working out
It happen to me now sudden stab pain in back when breathing 🥴🙂
Edit: and I thought it’s a lung cancer 🥴
I did some heavy weighted bar squats two days ago and for the past two days I’ve been experiencing this type of pain in my upper back when breathing deeply. The muscles around the area are also sore. This pain is most likely due to poor form while lifting, correct? I’ve never had pain while breathing deeply before, so I am assuming it is weightlifting related
Possibly. We would need a video of you doing the squats to know for sure to see how your form was. Take a video next time so you can watch it back and see so you can possibly pinpoint the cause!
Yeah my back hurts after doing side to side planks
thank you doc for explaining to us
My back pops when I take a deep breathe and it follows up with nausea.
Have you been to see a doctor or physical therapist to determine what is going on?
When I breathe deep my back hurts really bad how long will this take to get rid of?
Hard to say how long it will take. Have your been to see a doctor or Physical Therapist about the pain?
So my upper back hurts only on the left side. Do you think working out can cause that? And only hurts when I take a deep breath in. Other than that I don’t have no other problems such as breathing problems or any other conditions
Hard to say. If you are compensating with muscles in your upper back and causing lots of tightness there it could cause pain possibly. It would be hard to know for sure without seeing you move to look for compensation patterns.
@ᄋMooncrestt 🤣🤣🤣
The second option you gave on bending back somehow worked automatically, I was so shocked. When I searched Google it said I had cancer, anyways thank you! : )
I have the same problem. As a construction worker we lift some heavy objects from time to time. I was being cocky and lifted a 130 lb steel H pile by myself and the pain didn’t hit until a few days later. Now when breathing or coughing it hurts especially when standing up.
Have you been to see your doctor or a physical therapist? A PT could help you figure out what is happening and get you out of pain.
Omg same girl I couldn’t sleep for a week 😂😭
Great video I honestly didn’t know what it was at first because it hurt so bad when I breathe in it was very painful and sore but I had been bending down and picking up equipment out of there boxes and once I got home my back was killing me and seen this video and checked with my hands on my back and breathing in I could feel the muscles like you said and I did feel the muscles moving when I tried deep breath so thank you so much helped my pain go away
Me too I was almost worried until I did like she said and had my hands on my back and when I took a deep breath I could feel the muscles moving so I knew then it was because of my muscles and soreness after lifting heavy boxes all day
Glad it helped!
What have you done to help this? I’m having the same problem and it’s scaring the heck out of me, everything I look up says it’s lung problems.
Same here
I haven’t checked out quite ALL of your videos yet, but I’m working through them. 😉 So, if this is addressed in one or more of them, apologies, and could you point me in that video’s direction, but, I have a question;
I don’t have asthma, (which apparently can often be the cause of what I’m experiencing) but I have a difficult time breathing OUT all the way. Breathing IN completely is often difficult as well, but I’m addressing my improper breathing patterns for this…. But as I’m working on this, the stubborn inability to exhale fully remains. My exhale only gets to a certain point, and then it’s like the muscles just…. Forget how to complete the task, if that makes sense? I have to engage my TA and Rec Abs sometimes in order to push the rest of the air out, but this makes me nervous; I know that sometimes, in order to “re-wire” a movement pattern into the correct function, it takes engaging muscles we’re not used to using, so it feels like it takes far more effort than it should until it becomes second nature, BUT! – I don’t want to be training further incorrect firing patterns if this is not the proper way to address the issue. Any tips, suggestions, advice?
Thank you so much for your time, and sharing this amazing information!
I don’t work out and still got this😭
Have you ever watched this video? https://youtu.be/AKNCwuNaPyE
Take a video of yourself breathing so you can get a better idea of what is actually going on (sometimes what we think is happening and what is actually happening is different).
Do your ribs move to the side when you breathe? https://youtu.be/BpDKqjm1Ukc
This is an older video from when I was pregnant but you may find it helpful https://youtu.be/BunMAwkfYqQ
I’m 21 years old boy and few days before my heart beat suddenly increase to 179bpm and after two days I got back pain. So what to do do you have any exercise tips?
I would make sure you have been checked out by a doctor and follow their guidance on what is safe for exercise.
Thanks! I woke up with back pain and I was hurting so bad when breathing deep or yawning. Focusing on not using the back muscle to breathe really helps. Thanks so much!
Where was your pain
My back on the right hurts when I breathe
Lay on a Tennis ball !!! Rub it out
I had Covid now I’m suffering ti this back pain from breathing
Got it from side planks
How did u fix it ?
My dad also got it
I need a solution for him
Or if u can tell who will be able to fix it
Me too was so stressed out the pain has been going on for days now 😭🤣🤣
I have upper pain on my back I hope it’s muscle pain and not spine. I’ve had this pain for 9 months I know I should get it checked out but I fear having something bad. But it’s hurts when I take a deep breath. Also when I try to squeeze my shoulder blades together as a stretch I get pain on the left side of my back and I have trouble determining if it’s spin pain or muscle pain. I’ve also noticed when laying down my upper body naturally shifts to the left while my waist and down stays straight. I got this pain after working landscape labor from lifting heavy wheelbarrows or bins full of grass to dump in the trailer.
I am so sorry that you are in pain! I would just go and get it checked out to be safe – it might not be as bad as you might think.
This happened three days ago when i couldnt catch a good breathe i was taking some deep breaths over and over then my upper right side of my back started to hurt when i tried to take more deep breaths i can breathe good now my back hurts when i take a deep breath or when i lay down for a while what could this be and when should i see a doctor
Since this is over the internet, I can’t evaluate when you should see your doctor, so my answer needs to be as soon as you can if it happens again.
@Core Exercise Solutions it still hasnt went away its been 4 days already im 18 btw
So if I suspect my left QL is tight, which is primarily when I wake up from laying on my bed (that is probably too soft) what should I do? Just stretch QL daily? Lacross ball? When I take deep breath definitely seems like that area is tight.
I’m not a fan of stretching to try and fix an issue. It usually comes right back. I doubt your bed is the primary cause either. It could be an abdominal muscle imbalance. Have you checked for rib flare?

@Core Exercise Solutions I’ll look into the vids! I think I just have anterior pelvic tilt and weak abs. Whenever I do a hip tuck and stand up it seems to go away with the breathing. Especially after I get moving and stand up. I think when I squeeze my glutes and move my hips forward it doesn’t hurt. My abs are very weak though for sure.
I had a back lumber/lower back injury and started practicing Wim Hof Breathing. I think I take it too far, sometimes laying down on my massage table and doing up to an hour of hardcore Wim Hof breath work. I find that my body really tightens up, my lower back gets stiff and starts having bad pain. I’m pretty sure its been adding to the injury. Great video, its still hard to pinpoint my challenge though. Any ideas on a good breathing coach?
How had the Wim Hof breathing been teaching you
That’s a great question. I know we go through breathing in a different way in my PCES course but I don’t know of a breathing coach off hand to recommend. You could check out the book Breathe, I’ve heard that’s great!
I have been having this pain for 8 months sometimes on sometimes off can’t lift weights again properly
Dude, I legit am at the hospital thinking I have lung cancer. Lol let’s hope it’s just this
@Andrew Moreno I went to the hospital. Turns out its just muscle sprain
It often comes from cold exposure and its related ti spazm. Warming area is my advice.
Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one.. I thought I had lung cancer because of google..
Same i got scared google said i have lung cancer but I’m only 16 😭
i have the same problem and idk why, when it happened i was doing tricep pulldowns lmao
@Amir Valdez SAME BRO
Pulled my upper back muscle somehow while carrying my dog down the stairs. Think I breathed wrong or something. Maybe held my breathe when I was exerting. Now it hurts to touch my toes, bending backwards, lifting arms in front of me. The pain is like all along the last muscle, but I also worked out back and Bi’s 3 days ago. 🤔 ugh
Ugh – that is the worst!
