Someone is trying to justify his addiction…
“Caffeine is technically lethal.” This is just a statement of the main general principle of toxicology: the difference between a medicine and a poison is the dose. Almost anything is lethal in sufficient quantity.
You know a channel is good if you can’t tell if it’s from 2019 or 2011
Imagine doing 100 hours research for justify your addiction
Imagine having to DRINK to get energized…..
This post was Made by the cocain gang
I remember sitting at a cafe with my friend as he explained to me his issues with anxiety, insomnia and frequent visits to the bathroom, all while he was sipping away at a cup of coffee. I wish I was joking
Dude you gotta at least mention the side effects like insomnia, anxiety, ulcers and for some, arrhythmia. It’s not ALL upsides. Like any drug it needs to be used carefully.
Its a healthy stimulant…. unless you’re part of the ADD club, in which case its a depressant, but still makes me happy all the same. ♥
Grey, the first step is admitting you have a problem
“there’s really no reason to ever stop using the stuff”
I dunno, I’d say a caffeine allergy is a pretty good reason to not consume it
This guy speaks so fast, it’s like he drinks 100 cups of coffee every day!
All my friends are always going on and on about how coffee is the best thing ever and they could never live with out it, but me, someone with unusually high levels of acid in their stomach at all times and constantly dealing with acid reflux, gets incredibly nauseous from coffee, so much so that I can’t drink it to be more productive because it makes me feel worse.
But coffee being a stimulant means that its not giving you energy, its only managing your energy. Your body feels tired because its low on energy. Using coffee to stimulate it means you’re delaying the crash, not eliminating it.
That being said, I think coffee is ok for the occasional energy boost, maybe to get you through the hardest part of your day. Consuming it all the time will just lead to the same thing that happens with other drugs: you will stop getting benefits and instead just need it to stay normal.
CGP Grey: “Who would want to get rid of coffee?”
Me, with my caffeine induced migraines: “Unfortunately I’ve had to.”
CGP Grey: “They can even get rid of migraines!”
Me: “What?”
Love how he’s talking like he just snorted espresso
Ikr! Cpg Grey puts so much effort in his videos, it’s a real treat.
bruhhh
@Brian SadlerHow on Earth did you conclude that I was complaining? I just stated the fact. Since you’re bragging about your level of competence in English language, though, it’s lame, since you’re a native speaker, I’ll tell you something, snowflake. Right now I’m watching on my TV a political debate in my country and 4 people are invited. All of them are speaking at a different pace, one of them faster than a guy in this video and all of them speaking simultaneously at certain moments. Still, I have zero problems understanding them. That’s what we call listening competence, and it’s prevalent in 99.9% of native speakers. It’s not present in that ratio in speakers of non native languages. You see, I speak at least one foreign language, pretty well, actually.
I knew a girl who was so obsessed with posting about how much she loved to drink coffee. She later vomited blood from overuse of coffee during revision. Gross. I think most people just like the sensation of a nice hot drink. Just drink decafe
@Joker I think your right. People don’t have coffee addiction, they just like the bitter taste
He must be Finnish.
As someone who has a lot of Mormon friends, I can tell you that I’m their eyes, the whole point of avoiding caffeine is the same as avoiding nicotine, other drugs, alcohol, and also pornography. The whole point is avoid addiction to something that is viewed as unnecessary, repulsive and/or just plain filthy.
The moment the music started, you could tell
Oh, this video makes sense now after the road trip one where Grey was just pounding the coffee. I mean, so long as your anxiety isn’t bad, your heart isn’t acting funky, and you can sleep, drink all the coffee you want
Or just consistent… Or outdated.
Or 2021
@Simon Ågren i am sorry , but it is.
Considering this video, he might.
@juliopiotti I agree
@Benson The minecraft guy imagine having to be energized
made by the very smart gang
You’re just drinking it wrong
“Every day the world consumes 300 tones of caffeine – enough for one cup of coffee for every man, woman and child.”
Well, one of you is clearly drinking 2 cups a day, seeing as I’m not drinking mine…
@Kamelendu Bikash Saha AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Random Dude Don’t worry dude. You will alright. Take some deep breaths. 1 – 2 – 3. Drink a cup of coffee or tea (with your pinky lifted) and you will alright
Then stop voring so much
@RapGeneral Late reply, I know, but you should at least try coffee once.
Like six on blossom
Drink less coffee. Just fixed your problem.
@GratefulFrisko I drink hot chocolate now instead. The amount of sugar can’t be any better for me. XD
@BrickBot 2.0 Well if you feel better when you drink chocolate than continue to drink it. Just make sure to get som exercise in there and you should be fine. =)
@GratefulFrisko Oh yes, I take a walk with my dog everyday and I always make sure to do some active activity away from my screen or outside several times a day. I do feel pretty great. 😉
Which is really weird because with other forms of media (Movies, TV shows, Video games, etc..) you can almost easily tell what time it’s from. Where as it seems YT videos for the most part are almost timeless.
Also money. All the money spent on addictive substances is spent on more usefull things.
Uhh 2011 has quality content you know right
Well, not sure what is a current consensus but based on my knowledge I would say: caffeine or coffee cannot cause ulcers (that’s a popular myth), arrhythmia – it depends on the definition you choose, but if you asked me if caffeine in coffe could cause irregular heart contractions I would say – I doubt it/no. Anxiety or insomnia are parts of my field so I can say with full conviction: it’s complicated. But no, I don’t think you could cause anxiety or chronic insomnia by drinking coffee. Of course you can always find exceptions, that’s how medicine works, but I don’t think you could find a well described case of patient who developed insomnia/anxiety/ulcers/arrhythmia (unless you would consider every tachycardia as arrhythmia) by drinking coffee. Most of doctors I know including cardiologists drinks tones of coffee. It is quite safe. I wouldn’t say that about all forms of caffeine but coffee is fine, for most of us.
make that two!
@Dingo 154 Most sodas/coffees are cheaper than most juices, and the sugar levels in the latter are often extremely high too
@Nerd Made No it doesn’t. A cup of black tea has about half the caffeine content of a cup of brewed black coffee of the same size. For green tea, it’s about a quarter. What you mean is that a given amount of dry tea leaves contains more caffeine than an equal weight of dry coffee beans, but that doesn’t matter to the person drinking the beverage.
Ten years later: The research *does* seem to imply that caffeine has a few drawbacks. Namely that it can over-stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, causing anxiety, sleeplessness, jitters, and a temporary loss in cardiovascular performance. But it also depends on how fast you can metabolize it
It’s not a caffeine problem, it’s a caffeine solution.
@Gustavo H. that’s godamn right
“So go grab a cup guilt free!”
Coffee Child *’Labor’* has entered the chat
@Benson The minecraft guy seriously
@Patrick Campbell That’s because you’re an addict and the withdrawal symptoms give you anxiety. Not many addictions have you experience negative side effects AS YOU’RE USING THE DRUG. Not very complicated.
@Ferb kids don’t count in this convo
@Mbrace I hope everything is still going great for you.
only 2 HA! 6 at least in Sweden XD
Don’t forget about the 2.2 billion that don’t have access to clean drinking water, all the kids that don’t drink coffee and all the people who can’t afford it because their wage is less than 2$/day
@Dingo 154 Oh boy, you really need to read into some scientific (I’m talking real papers, not the opinions of yome dude on the internet) studies performed with thr limited amount of shrooms scientisty are allowed to study
yep, that’s why I quit, cold turkey, after drinking coffee since childhood.
He should start smoking and vaping while drinking coffee. Best thing I ever do every morning is drink a coffee and vape.
That would still mean that an f ton of people are consuming more than 1 cup. Cus this estimate contains every person. A lot of people in developing as well as poor country can’t even afford it. I wonder who is drinking that much
@Giuseppe LeGange Yep, though I have a feeling someone addicted to, say meth, isn’t exactly as justified as someone with an addiction to coffee.
@Dapper Muis Sheesh, this is coffee we are talking about, not coke.
People don’t generally turn into some junkies the moment you take away their coffee.
@endemion06463 That is some conspiratorial thinking lmfao
@Yago S You sure you were drinking coffee? I have never heard of hemorrhoids being caused by coffee.
@TooManyCharacter I can’t believe you are actually trying to make this awful argument.
Guess what, you cannot overdose on coffee. You would need to go above and beyond to actually accomplish the absurd task that is overdosing on coffee. The closet thing is people overdosing on the pure, powder caffieine.
@John Hill Well you’re right that overdosing on coffee is hard, but the point of my comment is not to draw a direct comparison, but rather to illustrate the fact that coffee is, by design, addictive.
You really shouldn’t care if you get some imaginary 3% productivity boost, since the condition is that you consume a fluid that has only real negative side effects on your body.
Seriously though, the only “positive” thing about coffee is changing your brain, but even that is an uncertain “benefit”.
What are you talking about this is normal talking speed
How fast do you talk?
I’d do the same, just for cigarettes, tea and video games
@Cameron Eridan thank you so much for saying this. The ‘i have ADHD therefore a powerful amphetamine/central nervous system stimulant works different for me’ is just not how regular chemistry or neurochemistry
@fartpluswetone I found out that sugar just ruins the taste of most beverages for me and having insulin spikes isn’t healthy either. It may be a big shock to drop sugar cold turkey, but if you do it gradually, your sense of taste gets used to it and eventually sugary drinks will start to feel nauseating.
@Arnesh Gupta Caffeine isn’t only present in coffee, so it also get consumed from other source, like energy drink. So there’s that to take into account into the worldwide caffeine consumption.
@John Hill Always wanting to sleep is also the opposite of sleeplessness. I think the guy has others issues.
So semen… Is…
@Chris Nelson 100% Oxygen in your blood yeah, but being in a pure oxygen environment isn’t toxic.
@DELTA A17 look up oxegen toxicity on wikipedia.
@Chris Nelson That’s basically assisted hyperventilation. The Apollo and Gemni Astronauts breathed 100% oxygen for weeks at a time without side effects.
So true XD
@Dapper Muis shhh no one needs to know that just let us enjoy our coffee
@JazzyJ Thank you for this comprehensive explanation!
I knew about some of this stuff because I have friends with ADHD and know family of those friends who have ADHD (and I used to date someone with ADHD).
But I learned some new stuff, so thank you!
My adhd makes it hard to sleep if I drink anything with caffene
What is insmonia
Hey just because I have both anxiety disorder and a gret fondness for caffeine it doesn’t mean that… sorry I freaked out thinking about my hour by hour schedule for next week, what were we talking about?
