Catherine Tate as Derek is visiting his general practitioner, who makes an assumption he'll be sorry for! Funny impressions from BBC funny television series.
This is a channel from BBC Studios who assist money new BBC programs. Service details as well as feedback:
“it’s a gentleman’s sponge bag!
come on leneord we’re off!”
hahahaha!
“Just because a gentleman uses a touch of rouge, you assume he is a receiver of swollen goods ?
How VERY dare you !”
this is such a funny line. my friends and i muck around with this one all the time! She is such an good comedian and her characters are so funny, I nearly die of laughter.
This is ABSOLUTELY hilarious. One of the funniest things I have ever seen. Much better than the other Derek skits.
Catherine Tate is a legend! <3
The funniest part of these sketches is when Derek minces off with Leonard at the end.
Cracks me up every time!
I don’t know how they both managed to do this while keeping a straight face, I’m peeing my pants here!!!!!
By literal comparison, Catherine Tate is the most hysterical comedian. Anyone who disagrees, I ain’t bovvered!
My mum was yelling at me and she said ”how very dare you!” and i cracked up.
It isn’t random wording, it’s an elaborate piece of Cockney rhyming slang. ‘Arris’ is short for Aristotle, which rhymes with bottle, which is short for bottle and glass, which rhymes with ‘arse’. And if you think it’s unlikely that Cockney slang would refer to Aristotle, remember the well-known use of ‘Brahms’ as short for ‘Brahms and Liszt’, which rhymes with ‘pissed’.
I met the inspiration for this character yesterday in a bar .. It was so hilarious trying not to mention it when the voice and mannerisms were coming thick and fast…
“Just because I live with my mother and haven’t found the right girl yet you assume i take it up the harris” that line always gets me into hysterics 😀
I Will never get enough of this !!
“I’ve never been so insulted!” he gets insulted everywhere, lol
DavidB5501 that is absolutely correct. Take it from a Londoner. Cockney rhyming slang is more about what isn’t said, rather than what is.
How on earth do the other actors play opposite Catherine Tate without laughing? The Catherine Tate show was absolutely awesome.
Gay dear, who dear, me dear, no dear!! 😂😂😂😂
I can’t quite decide if that face Leonard makes means: “Oh, god…I’m so sorry about all this!” or simply an echo of Derek’s indignation like: “Yes. How very DARE you!”
One of the more convoluted rhyming slang words : Aristotle = bottle = ‘ bottle and glass’ = ar$€
Aris*
The best part of it is he is always saying come on Leonard we’re off !! 😂😂😂😂
steve gale what are you talking about?
I came to the comments looking for this because my ears couldn’t make it out. Thank you, kind stranger!!!!!
How do you know they didn’t laugh ?
Probably did, highly likely did a few takes just like films and the shows etc.
If watch outtakes when available takes few takes as actors laugh or mess up their lines
I am a yank who lived in the UK for a couple of years and I LOVED this show. She really is brilliant. I also liked Little Britain as well as the Alan Partridge show. I still come on youtube to watch some of these clips, the world certainly was a better place back then,,,
I’m guessing some of these scenes took literally hours to film, they must have been in stitches most of the time.
how very dare you! lol 😂
DavidB5501….I didn’t get it, now I do. What a clear informed explanation. Thank you. Robert, UK.
@Paul Jordan you’re wrong. intervention is correct
Thank you for repeating what they said in the video. You performed voice to text.
@The Intervention A bottle is also slang for £200
Indignation, dear, indignation 🤨🤣
Leonard shares Derek’s indignation and disgust. It wouldn’t be possible for him to have his own opinion, as he follows Derek’s shadow wherever he goes, and in some episodes is even literally binded to Derek as a pet.
“Who, dear? Me, dear? Gay, dear? No, dear!” is something I still regularly quote even 15 years later. (And I am gay, dear!)
@Mark Fox you tell him Foxy 🦊 10-9 Foxy this round.
@Mark Fox I’m laughing at you for writing this diatribe on a nine-year-old comment, and ironically mistyping ‘cretin’.
Leonard’s always there with Derek 😂
Yes. I’m sure it was all done in one take.
And Leonard’s look of pure indignation.
