What did you use to believe about your body or your hormones that is not true?
The image of not being SKINNY enough— i was a 90’s kid and that was a HUGE ISSUE
not no more
Lol
The one I heard today about eating sugar in pregnancy can cause gestational diabetes 😳
It’s absolutely not true at all!!
I am of average weight and my first pregnancy was when I was 21 (42 now) all 3 of my pregnancies I developed GD….it is absolutely caused by hormones and not from eating too much sugar…
This is why I refuse to use hormonal birth control anymore. It messes with my hormones and I love feeling all of my hormonal fluctuations through my cycle!
Hi Lisa, thanks so much for this conversation. I hope Dr Aviva goes viral because this is exactly the information that women and girls *need* right now (7-8 yrs old??!! 🤯😫😭). As a 45yr old i’m heading (crashing) into peri-menopause, after a comparatively healthy menstrual chapter (no meds ever, just herbal remedies, tracking, learning & adapting). But peri-meno is something else..!! Is there any chance you could do a part 2 with Dr Aviva on that from a medical perspective? It seems like the best advice out there is coming from women who have been through it rather than the medical establishment (no surprises there) – it’s *definitely* something we need to learn more about..! 🙏💐🙏
Loved this episode! With adenomyosis celiacs and a damaged gut I was struggling. I had acne mood swings constipation and so many other symptoms I have no idea how I kept it together. I finally had to take control and went to several doctors until someone listened. 6 years later I am WFPB, no acne no mood swings lost 60 pounds and finally feel good! It’s so sad I had to fight for health that didn’t include pills. I am happily pill free ❤ thank you for the great content and giving women the power to take control of their body!
My period cramps disappeared after a couple of weeks of improving my diet: adding more water, green smoothie every day. I used to take 2 Advils every 6 hours for the first 2 days. Now I don’t need any. And I am as active and energetic as my non-period days. I was blown away by experiencing first hand the impact of diet on our hormones. Thank you for this great talk!
So impressed you discovered this early!!!
Wow thanks for sharing this!! It’s so powerful! We sometimes think “it’s just me” but once we have the knowledge we can then act!! ❤️
Oh hells yeah!!! You frikin rock homie! That’s so amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
@@lisabilyeu8103 so nice to see your reply!! I am a fan of your work and what you are doing to empower women ❤️
This is awesome, thank you for putting this info out there.
I’ve struggled with heavy, painful, absolutely irregular periods since 11, and my doctors could never care less since 6 months of the pill made me suicidal and I wasn’t going to do that again! Diet changes and switching to cloth absorbency have helped immensely, but these are things I learned on my own. I hate that women are so uneducated about our own bodies.
In my early 20’s, the drs had me on so many types of birth control, before finally just doing chemical menopause. Im 41 now and my periods are still absolutely awful, and I have so many health issues that have popped up in the past decade
Thanks so much foe sharing this!! 🙌🔥❤️
Me too!
Hi! What do you add to your smoothie? 🙂

Thank you Lisa for this interview. For the last 10 years I have health issue in which were and are effected by my hormones. I have been misdiagnosed, given way to much calcium (during premenaposal) and caused even more issues leading to surgery. I am really blessed my OB/GYN is a making, she has git my hormones back on track and I have my general physician work with her. If any doctors refuse to work with her then I instanty look for another doctor. I strongly feel all my doctors any where from OB/GYN to General need to work together with you as a TEAM! Thank you again!
@@GrowWithSupreet Thank you so much!!
I used to believe that I could not mange my hormones or live an optimal, balanced, and healthy life. I have endometriosis and have been battling with it now for 11 years. This journey is a lifestyle change mind, body, and soul. The lack of information on women’s health is disheartening. Thank you for bringing awareness and I hope you continue to do more videos where we have these discussions. There are many of us suffering daily when we should not have to do so. On a positive note, you can make a change by being your own advocate and intuitively listening to your body and mind. This is where it all starts, understanding your INDIVIDUAL needs. Your diet, household products, exercise, relationships, past traumas, mindset, supplements, stress, skincare, and makeup (just to name a few.) All play into the disruption of your hormones.
I did not believe that we could make a change, now I do!
I became so depressed while on the pill, I was suicidal.Thankfully, I had the wherewithal to stop taking the pill. Lost15 pounds in 3 weeks and the depression stopped. Thank you for bringing this to light!
The discussion around birth control is SO IMPORTANT. I found at a young age that the mixed hormonal BC made me RAGE. I mean completely come unhinged rage. Went to my Male GYN at the time and he told me it was in no way related. I asked to be switched and my mood normalized almost immediately. Tried several other BC thru the years and time and time again the mixed hormone types made me completely lose my mind. We need to be our own advocates. Ultimately I was put on a single hormone pill which still made me feel like crap. Switched to Mirena which caused complete apathy and severe depression. The ‘solution’ for my situation was a tubal after baby 3. My body just didnt like birth control. There was a PROFOUND TED talk on this topic that I found life changing by Sarah E Hill called “the surprising link between womens brains and the birth control pill” that should be required for all prescribing physicians as well as their patients.
My mom would love to hear her to talk about hormones in post-menopause. Essentially we are not the same people without our hormones, and many of her friends feel like they’ve lost themselves.
Me too!!!
This is such an important video for all woman. I have 3 daughters and I feel like learning about their cycle is going to be more important than Sex Ed, which is taught in schools. I’m 40 and still navigating my way through life with my cycle and hormones etc
I have not believed anything!!! Lol!
I was so sick every month with my periods. Pain, vomiting to the point of dehydration. I missed work and school, struggled to catch up after each month. Now I’m in menopause and thank God! This is the healthiest I have been in my life! No more periods than you Jesus! I eat as healthy as I can, get myself to bed as early as possible, keep my dietary sugar low. Limit caffeine. Exercise. Meditate. And yes! Life is so much better now!
I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis after my oldest was born and after I had my 15 year old, my doctor said I probably had endometriosis my whole life. I went to many doctors, I got very little help. Fortunately, I was an RN myself for 10 years and I don’t believe everything doctors tell me. ❤️
Fran drescher, the actress who played the Nanny saw 7 doctors over 7 years. It saved her life, she had ovarian cancer and they all told her nothing was wrong with her.
I saw lots of doctors over a span of years and I got help from a physical therapist. I have pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic floor trauma from the way my oldest child was born. Doctors told me it was normal.
This episode made me cry. Thank you Women of Impact for doing this. At a time when doctors keep dismissing women’s health, it helps us to self-study and understand our own bodies. Being able to listen to conversations like these with doctors like Dr. Romm, makes it that much easier to be able to do that.
Big thank you for this great conversation. It is simply SUPERB that so much research is being done. Am 53, got on the pill as it was a ‘normal’ thing to do in those days. No Q were being asked. IF I knew that time, now I do feel a bit sad / unhappy … yet there is nothing I can do to reverse. Feel grateful for conversations like these, I can educate myself now. Again thank you SO much 💖🙏
I have endometriosis and it took me 10 years actively asking the doctors about my pains and another 10 years that I was just a teenager and every one just said that pain was normal. So between starting to have pain and having a diagnosis it was about 20 years. I’m so glad to see that there are more awareness about period pain not being normal.
Good for you for getting into PT! It can feel quite overwhelming to do so
I was always the odd man out in my family because I would question and politely challenge doctors when they were quick to throw medication at me. I remember going GYN and after discussing my issues with PCOS her first reaction was prescribing medication. I told her ” no, please don’t throw meds at me I need to take further test to diagnose the problem not just throw meds on at it”. I kid you not, this woman went from pleasant and sweet to cold and distant.
I wish more doctors had this knowledge. I walked out of my gyno’s office because she wanted to give me an unnecessary hysterotomy. Fortunately, I was able to research it myself and recover on my own. Women’s health issues are so neglected and we are all suffering because of it.
Here are my patterns:
Days 1-3: headaches, lethargy, loss of appetite, confusion, reflective mood, low heart rate
Days 4-9: low heart rate, fluctuating moods, planning and starting projects
Days 10-12: lots of energy, creative thinking, compulsions and anxiety
Days 13-16: aroused, flirtatious, energized, beautiful skin, incredible strength, some insomnia
Days 17-20: very focused mind, still horny and energized but to a lesser degree
Days 21-24: increase in appetite, breasts tender, heart rate increased, short of breath, anxiety
Days 25-27: energy decreasing, crying
Days 28-29: insomnia, sore neck and shoulders, constipation, arousal (from all the pressure of the uterus on the vagina, not from attraction to others), and sugar cravings
I’m 37, no children, never taken birth control, and I take probiotics and eat well and exercise.
I used to extensively track my cycle in a journal. I included details like: resting heart rate, basal temperature, sexual activity, energy levels, mood, exercise, headaches and pains, hunger and cravings, and on and on. After several months of tracking IN DETAIL, I had a good idea of what to expect each day of my cycle. Now I track my cycle on a cycle clock that I drew on my dry-erase board. It has 29 notches and I can look ahead at the predicted changes and make notes as needed every day.
This was terrific. Very eye opening and hate to say that I’ve never heard much of this before. Please do more of these!
Same!
