Thank you for saying this, I swear so many YouTubers recycle the same garbage advice that you shouldn’t ever be hungry but it just isn’t true at all, I’ve never went through a fat loss phase without having hunger and cravings that I just push through
Hey JClarke, it’d be cool if you could talk about training while on a cut. I have had a hard time with losing strength and it took me a little while to realize most of it comes back after the cut is over. Also other things like flatness and how small you look. There are more to this aspect that I have yet to figure out and I’d love to hear what to you’ve learned.
Yes thank you so much for saying this. I’m currently in a calorie deficit and definitely feel hungry. Especially in the evening. But I try to drink sparkling water instead of eating. And when you stand on the weighing scale and see the results, you embrace this hunger
Hunger is you taking control of your stomach aka building mental strength
if you aren’t hungry you ain’t doing it right 😂
i actually needed this reality check thank you man
I’m glad you talked about this! 💝 Can you mention some other symptoms, please!
I started thinking of it as giving my stomach/body a break, and sometimes it’s kind of enjoyable. SOMETIMES.
Mind over matter, friends.
A simple rule, if I *feel like* i’m hungry, I keep drinking water for at least an hour to see if I’m really hungry or just bored. Great way to increase your water intake and also pass the time until your next meal.
Thank you for this check bc I was wondering about hunger lately.
I worked hard to regain my hunger signals (lost touch with them last time I lost weight). Trying to lose weight again WITHOUT losing those signals has been a weird challenge.
I don’t know how to deal with the hunger without ignoring/shutting it down like last time, but at least now I know the feeling is normal. We’re in this together guys
After years of weight struggle and using food of my emotional comfort, My problem is I don’t actually know if I’m hungry anymore or I’m just eating cause it’s a pattern I’m used to, that’s my biggest hurdle at the moment is to know when I am hungry, if that makes sense
I am not an emotional eater, but I do sometimes go for comfort foods if I am physically uncomfortable or in pain.
When I am more disciplined and well rested, I will choose something sensible to get me through such moments. Other times I am not so strong.
Something sensible is a piece or two of dark chocolate. Something less sensible is a Snickers bar.
The secret for me is, not buying the less sensible foods. If they are not in the house when I am feeling such things, then it is impossible to eat them. Eventually, the moment will pass.
Now, what does this have to do with hunger? It doesn’t, and that’s just point. We don’t always eat when we’re hungry even though we would have a much easier time losing weight or body fat if we only ate when we were hungry.
Makes sense. If you’re body is using to a certain amount and then you give it less, you’re definitely going to feel something. Good luck everyone on their journey!
Some have asked, how do I know if I am hungry.
There was a time in my life when this question would have perplexed me. But now that I am older and wiser and have experienced more of what life has to offer to include a health condition that has sidelined me for a bit, I can now see why one would ask that question.
The thing is your metabolism can dip so low that you rarely feel hunger or if you’re eating way more than your body needs, it is also very difficult to experience hunger.
I have found that your body can get used to going without food and your body will adapt and I believe this includes adjusting the amount of ghrelin your body produces. This is the hormone that makes you feel hungry.
So, what do you do if you don’t know whether or not you’re hungry? I recommend starting off with using one of those online tools that tells you how many calories you should be eating for your height and weight or body fat.
I then recommend a combination of calorie reduction and intermittent fasting. If you still don’t feel hungry after that, I recommend leaving everything the same but increasing the amount you exercise. And if you still never feel hungry, I recommend increasing the amount of muscle building exercise you do.
And how will you know when you are hungry? Trust me, if you’re doing enough exercise and you’re restricting enough calories, you’re gonna know.
Very good advice about the hunger sensation
I have been great about filling myself up during the day on protein and veg and fruit but night time strikes and I get the “you need a snacky snack” Ive been 4 nights without night snacking! Just keep drinking my water, drinking tea, telling my brain its fine but shes whiney 😂
That’s my issue too… ugh what tea do you like to drink to help you out?
I’ve noticed the same. Something that’s helped me is fasting in the morning and then eating a bigger Portion in the evening and then again at night since I’m never hungry in the morning it just makes it easier.
Great advice… and I agree, those snack bars are delish
Agree, when on a calorie deficit embrace hunger as part of the cutting process. There is no shortcut 💯👍
I delay breakfast to remedy this
@World Bender Eat big in the morning and eat little at night. You’ll feel less hungry
I totally get that. Had the same issue. I’ve started intermitting fasting and it has helped me to get that hunger feeling back but also eat more consciously. Might be worth a try 🙂
I can second this. This may seem ridiculous but when I first started dieting I kind of trained my appetite and hunger by doing 24-48 hour fasts. I just got really comfortable being hungry and conquered that feeling so know when Im just in a normal deficit hunger never bothers me anymore.
Some people would say this is an ED or whatever but I feel like its helped me a ton on my journey.
