I use rationalisation for everything ๐ But my intuition for science is strong so it works
A LIFE TIME ADVICE TO YOUNGSTERS ”’BE SCEPTICAL ABOUT ALL THING U HEAR”’
Women are told to wear it because according to some beliefs it keeps women in control. This is why atleast where I live only married women wear it. It’s disgusting.
Hey Pranav, I’m 16yo and not very good with science but I certainly don’t agree with these pseudo sciences. How do I explain these misconceptions to my family and friends?
These people are coming up with “scientific” reasons for their beliefs from thin air.
Look buddy.. I’m 24 now, and I had the same question when i was 16.. I stood up for science, critical thinking and rationality and questioned my family.. now, I have no one. I’m not asking to not explain these things to your family, but make sure you’re not destroying your bonds over these arguments..
It’s very hard. Ask them what evidence is there for what they believe.
What you can and must do is not fall prey to these ideas yourself
1. You need not have to have everything to be sceintific to follow your custom and tradition.
2. I would suggest that you first talk to your family and try to understand the core reasons why a specific custom ot tradition is followed.
3. It is Ok to follow some customs when they have a significance and purpose or are indicative of a religious or family or emotional value even when theya re not 100% scientific.
4. Before you try to confirm anything as a ‘ misconception ‘ do some non biased research on the practice and history.
5. Then you take a call.
Just realise that most of the actions of a normal human being can be explained sceintifically. But humans don’t behave sceintific in all aspects.
I am grateful to be born into a highly educated and rather progressive family but If I came out as an atheist they’ll probably disown me or our relationships will turn bitter which I clearly don’t want. I am not an atheist though I see myself as more of an agnostic.
I have decided that there’s no point in arguing about something if the other person is dead set on denying it at all costs.
exactly. i remember it being used as a metaphor in Bulbbul
Totally agreed
Specially which you trust more
I was gonna correct you for spelling but I got to know that skeptical and sceptical both are correct ๐ฏ!!
Guess I’m …๐
I love how these pseudo scientific videos are more damaging to religion. And yet when we call them out, it’s us who is anti Hindu.
Hey Pranav
I am a teen. Whenever I try to explain something like this, they always say that I disreapect the vedas and that I think that everything written in the ancient scriptures is wrong
Edit- What have I started
Edit- I love the fight in the replies
And how did you reach this conclusion?
@Anchit Bose traditions are taught. What did you think?
Nice short pranav โค
Bro that guy is an athist and athist don’t even know how and why we come here in this Earth… And this guy talking about science ๐คฆ๐ป๐
people who say such things have never read the vedas
For most of these people they hold this idea that any and all ‘tradition’ once had a logical reason for it, and therefore these traditions must be rational in some way even if the actual reason is purely based on myths and beliefs.
Hey buddy,
It is okay to criticize ancient texts. No matter what anyone says and make any grandiose claims about how their book somehow written by whatever super powerful being, that shouldn’t scare you from being critical.
.
Being critical is welcomed in science. You can take any known scientific knowledge and continue to ask ‘why’ to every aspect of it until the scientist say, ‘we don’t know’. Science accepts our limits, and we keep pushing our limits finding new knowledge.
.
The commenter ‘Meme’ replied to you saying, ‘we don’t know why and how we come here in this earth’ and that’s true. Science is yet to figure out the how but so what? One day we might know.
Unlike religion, science as a discipline does not claim to show answers to everything.
It’s the religious who point to a book and claim they know everything without ever providing any real proof.
Also, bindis help to stimulate the pineal gland and cool the head. (Jk)

@Memebetter than assuming random bs and worshipping it ๐
Skeptical
Why people want their cultural practice to be scientific just let it be a culture.
True, it’s cultural things why do they want any approval from anyone.
Well there are many other claims as well..All in all those claims point out exerting pressure on certain points. I have experienced some issues with periods in the past and tried some acupressure techniques. It has helped but not really sure whether it was a placebo or an amalgamation of efforts I was taking in other areas as well to improve my health.
One thing I never understood is all these people who claim such things, why don’t they conduct an actual experiment with a controlled group and publish their findings? If they really are true then the entire world will believe that Indian traditions are indeed good for health.
@Jamuna Prasad it’s the classic dilemma of the religious. They need science to validate their beliefs but at the same time claims certain aspects of science is wrong because it goes against their beliefs.
Bro don’t ask questions on such topics to the family they get angry or get mad ๐ข
But buttery smooth relations are good.
@FICTION SOLOS ANY VERSE YOU NAME You’re late.
Because it’ll expose them and most of their viewers are dumb enough not to question them.
@krishna susanth This is why you should be financially independent in India at least before attempting such stunts.
I am pretty sure it originated as a way to tell a if a women is married without asking her or even looking at her face.
we didnt know we needed this man
Oh…really kiddo
How tf can you say ancient scriptures wrong?
How many have you?
18 puranas?
The gitas?
The upanishads?
The 4 vedas?
Toe ring is a part of diplomatic signaling that is used by a woman in our tradition to say “I’m married”. To link it to women’s health using scientific explanation is an overstretch. Not necessary to validate cultural practices using science. I agree with Pranav
Anothet simple way to bust this is to see if all women wearing toe rings are in good health
They need a solid evidence why they believe weird things,as everyone knows if something is scienctific it is given more credit and validation, people ofcourse themselves can’t say this is scientific or not ,so they look out and such psuedoscientific creaters validate their confirmation bias by introducing half science tons of fallicies and saying what they follow is scienctific and hence it is as credible as any scientific theory and laws. Bt in reality they follow it becoz of their parents or customs.
the creaters are smart they knows their audience well. Their audiences have a false sense of pride and thus they developed narsisism that ohh our culture is so scientific it is the greatest culture in the world. As if they contributed anything to their culture, but still in the mind they think they are somehow special becoz they belonged to the culture. So if anyone criticises their culture to be not scientific, they feel offended and they think it’s blasphemy. They will abuse you and ofcourse with fallacies. It’s like flattery if someone praises you,you feel good bt you won’t question what the logic or evidence behind you calling me smart and cool or any other adjective you want. They deliberately trap themselves in these pipeholes of echo chamber constantly saying your culture is scientific,so they won’t listen. Be proud of positive and what comforts you in your culture, sure some of them could be scientific and be proud of that while respecting other cultures and realising just becoz some claims in you culture is scientific, doesn’t mean every other claims are. If you are educated and did actual studying rather than rata maar that’s extremely common in our edu system at the instance you hear the full explanation, you would run at that instance shouting psuedoscience!! psuedoscience.
That’s sad bro. I know in Islam being atheist is a big sin. I am also atheist, my Hindu fam will definitely not approve though ๐
Culture, religion, tradition…it’s the meaning of life for many people. They can’t let go of it.
@N M No need to let go of it, just accept that it’s not scientific.
I always knew I was adopted ๐ฅฒ
Thanks for your videos bro….u are a ray of hope.

Is there ANY such artifact that married Hindu MEN are expected to wear,
to signal that the man is married ?
Bcoz those culture are there to define women as a married. And people are finding valid reason to before follow this bcoz there is no such culture for men to follow as we are living in male dominating society.
They want to prove atheists and feminists wrong ๐
Anand Ranganathan, the ‘Hindu’ atheist has to see this
Exactly…my mom use to wear this and then there was a point her toes started hurting a so much they had to be removed and she had to go to doctor to heal her toes..but inspite of all this she again made new ones with new fit from jewellery shop though we insisted her to stop wearing them again…Indian women are so dedicated to all their customs!!!!
debunking cultural practices on the pretext of “pseudo science” deserves to be called anti hindu
I do support logically thinking over rationalisation but my bias is regarding
Gender science
Evolutionary biology
Origin of universe
As these end up or originate from error or lack of answer layered upon reasoning of interrelated aspect
I find gender studies useless, as in a libertarian world no one cares about what you are attracted to.
Your attraction isn’t your identity
Your subjective thinking should be forced on others
โ@Darshan Rthen don’t connect your cultural practices with science if it is not and just simply practice for what it is. No problem in that.
You use science (pseudo science) to support your cultural practices and don’t want anyone to fact check on you.??
That’s not how its gonna work. Its not a one way street.
Sandalwood, maybe?
It’s interesting how you discard the biological aspect..your whole sexuality is based on biology..which carries million years of evolutionary instincts..and that what you are doing even without rationalising or thinking..now coming to identity part..it’s upto you how you want to identify yourself..so biological aspect can’t be ignored..this problem arises when you want to have control over everything..why not form your ideals..and mould your biology to those ideals..now there are plenty of evidences for bigbang..like red shift effect
Even the aspect of attraction is biological..now let’s think of it in terms of any other biological system..framing it with your perspective..why should I use only oxygen for respiration..or why do I even get attracted? Do you even have a choice..if you are talking w.r.t to lgbtq..then it’s definetely biological…cns determines the sexual orientation
I use rationalisation for everything ๐ But my intuition for science is strong so it works
