Love you all! I appreciate your support!
I am always between 4 and 8 – I use 240 units in total of Long and Rapid acting.
I inject my rapid one hour before eating and I have absolutely amazing control with a standard deviation of between 0.7 and 1.0 – I eat 60gm carbs max per day and only 800 calories as I have an incurable lung disease too which is massively affected by diet – hence the restriction in the diet.
Thank you for these tips! My blood sugars are mostly rollercoasters… I really want to fix this so I am starting today with your tips :-)!
Excellent video! Thank you! Great blood sugar advice and appreciate all your video editing to make the video fun to watch!
Thanks Tom, another great and useful blog.
Ah, how long to pre-bolus before eating? It is that sort of thing coupled with that slight variation that keeps us diabetics on our toes! Well worth doing, though I haven’t got the time quite right yet especially as I can forget to eat at the right time.
My real besetting sin is eating then forgetting the bolus…it is one of the reasons I keep my carbs down as low as I can nearly every day but I do have the occasional naughty day when I have maybe as much as 40 carbs. It is hard work to keep that level line which is why I love having only 2 to 5 gms carbs in a day. It helps when one has a bad memory.
Great tips Tom and have had my share of spikes yet now it’s completely opposite and have been having lows. Eating well; exercising as usual yet noticing more lows before a meal. Had to adjust my Humalog rapid pre breakfast and dinner. Yet I used to take a very small amount pre lunch and the past few days have been monitoring it with my LIFESTYLE LIBRE SENSOR CGM and I haven’t spiked to warrant more Humalog. I do take long lasting Tresiba in the morning but have not adjusted it and kept it the same.Either my carb intake is definitely more controlled (as I’m very diligent in my diet and follow my dieticians plan since becoming a T1D in 2018 at 56….no family history!)or my body is demanding less insulin….not complaining!. So happy I found your channel and can relate to the majority of issues you talk about and also getting great tips from a fellow T1D. Any tips on low readings? Less insulin is definitely one of them. Taking notes for when I see my Endocrinolgist early in the new year as I see him every 4 Months and he makes small adjustments in my insulin. Will check out your video on your fave low carb meals. I have definitely come a long way from when first diagnosed and appreciate advice and tips from fellow T1D as yourself👍
Hey Tom! I am due to see my endocrinologist next week. My NovoRapid insulin takes a lot longer to act than normal. So I’m going to ask about another quick acting insulin. I’m also on a very low carb diet which virtually never changes. I love your channel & I find it really helps me to stay focused. Keep up the great work 🥰🥰💕💕🇦🇺
try to take the insulin before 15 to 20 eating your food and calculate ur carbs very well
@Dormices I will look into naltrexone – Thanks 😊
@Andy Wilson Good luck!
@Dormices Thanks My friend ❤

Absolutely!!! Dr. Bernstein and very low carb diet SAVED my life!!! Nothing tastes as good as healthy FEELS!!!
More honest straightforward than today’s doctors.
U are a hero my friend
Glycemic index should be observed along with glycemic load and satiety index. Glycemic index can’t go far with the load of a bite of white bread. Take your time eating. Chew every bite and swirl every sip in your mouth as long as it tastes good. I eat according to my appetite without greed. I medicate according to my glucose reading. Everything goes up in winter and drops in summer. I have not seen information on glucose spikes. Does it matter if what goes up immediately comes down?
@Nightingale Solo thanks. I have cut the edges & it does seem to help. I’m going to start wearing it on my chest which is the best alternative location according to another video this same YouTuber posted I’ll just have to shave a bit to keep the hair from getting in the way.
I was diagnosed with type 2 in May, A1C was 13.5, glucose was 454. In August my A1C was 5.6 glucose in the morning is 90 to 120. No more Hemaloige (sp), 4.5 mg of Truelicity (sp), weekly, and as my Truelicity dosage increased from .75 to the 4.5, I’ve been decreasing my Lantis by 2 units every 3 days. I’ve dropped the Lantis from 54 units down to 10, and continuing to drop. What say you?
Thankyou so much i like youre explanation. Tnx again.i am a diabetic too
Best the best ,,I never got such nice of guiding I am now hopeful as already on March to do the effort ,,my age is 67
I am 62 and have been a T1D for 44 years and have had no complications because I feel it is due to eating a “balanced” healthy diet trying to avoid big/late dinners, exercise regularly (weights and cardio 3-4 times a week), maintain a healthy weight (being on the leaner side really helps in blood glucose control) and monitor/compensate my blood glucose levels with the aid of a CGM and it’s significantly helps me to keep my a1c’s between 5-6, time in range > 90%, and standard deviation < 35 on shots only and not having to deal with the hassles of a pump. I agree with avoiding high sugar meals (sweetened breakfast cereals and pastries are the worst!) to keep my blood glucose levels from spiking but low carb, high protein/fat meals NO! A balanced diet has been best for me as it matches my short acting insulin (I use Lyumjev) absorption profile as it was likely designed to do exactly that and high protein/fat meals just make my blood glucose levels rise later on because they digest slowly and I have to take an additional bolus around 4 hours later and even a second bolus a few hours later if it was a high fat meal. The bigger problem is if I eat a high protein/fat meal at dinner I end up getting up in the middle of the night to bolus, which I don't like to do. Also too much protein and fats, especially red meats, are hard on your digestive system and raise cholesterol! Best of all balance diets are not boring and are they can be very healthy, remember vegetables and fruits that are full of healthy vitamins and fiber are carbs!
Thank you for sharing your experience! Very valuable. And congrats on your great work!
Very nice job! Congrats!
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Have a great day!
Nice video to motivate diabetic patients about their eating habits. Good also to get the tips about how to avoid your diabetes spike. Thanks
@Type One Talks Thank you for your channel and ability to share experiences. As you know being a T1D takes diligence and the disease is unforgiving. I try to meet my goals of control without making it super difficult. Exercise is a huge part of that and even better when you find exercise I love to do, which for me is hiking, disc golf, and mountain biking. It’s amazing the blood glucose stability it provides and protection against the side effects of diabetes!
Por favor
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for your videos (the Freestyle Libre ones and those with recipes and tips to limit blood sugar spikes. I’m underweight, needle-phobic and ‘blessed’ with gestational diabetes (HbA1c 5,4%, fructosamine normal, max G 186 mg/dl after a ‘normal meal’ but they’re very, very strict here) and a diabetic follow-up with a diet focusing only on lowering glycemia after meals and losing weight. The second part I did not need …
Those are great results! Good job! And I appreciate your feedback on the video. Very helpful. Wishing you all the best my friend!
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend. Good luck during your doctor’s appointment and apologies for my late response! Take care!
Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing you experience my friend!
Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing you experience my friend!
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend.
The endocrinologist said that I was probably one of the best type 1 diabetics he sees in his clinics. So to just keep going. This year in April I will be celebrating 40 years of being a type 1 diabetic. Thank you though for your support & you take care 😘🥰🇦🇺
Will you be able to make any videos on blood sugar highs caused by stress (cortisol) – so called “hollow highs”, and how to deal with them?
Hey Kerry, the fat content in your diet will severely inhibit your insulin sensitivity. cut out the fats and after about 3 days you will notice a massive difference
I might be wrong, I believe that low fat, whole plant foods result in a similar result. Due to a very high concentration of fiber. And do not result in a greater risk of diseases such as heart disease, arthritis, ect. And can resolve insulin insensitivity. It’s only the side effects about a ketogenic diet that concern.
1) stop eating food with added sugar
2) eat low GI foods
3) eat high fibre foods
4) Take a post meal walk 30-60 minutes
5) count/estimate carbs in each meal
6) for T1D taking insulin earlier i.e. prebolusing
7) use CGM (continuous glucose monitoring)
8) eat low spike meals (I’ve yet to watch that video)
7)
Can you help me managing my diet? I donot want to lose so much weight.. I am 62years old
Annie simon…. Can you help me manage my diet i do not want to lose so much weight since i lost so much weight already.

@MrSham3less type1DM/ Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus
@Milan Veverka though different people have different cut-offs, any meal that has less than 100gm of carbohydrates is generally agreed to be “low carb”
@Arvind Bhave 100 grams a meal? 100 a day is high carb
What does a
Diet plan please
Am 32, now effected with type2 diabetis
@Milan Veverka instead of fast food restaurants…stop by any sprouts store they sell baked chicken…Turkey ham (they are hormone and nitrates free)…they have already prepare fruit and vegetables salads, sweet potato and chickpeas spreads, gluten free bread ( they are low in carbs)…plant based yogurts….seeds…anything you can think of…
I was 186 and overweight last year and was eating excess sugar. I dramatically reduced my sugar intake and since then went down to 148. My A1C dropped from 5.7 to 5.5. What I will say though is eating bread is OK, even if it’s white bread, as long as you don’t consume it in excess and eat balanced meals throughout the day. If you eat rice, put beans on top of it to reduce the spike. But yes, this guy is right, eat vegetables and legumes, it will help a ton. Also, if you are going to eat bread and rice, do yourself the favor of doing cardio to at least burn stored up sugar to offset the spike.
Well said! Thank you so much for sharing your experience my friend. Have a great day!
I reversed my type 2 diabetes 3 years ago with low carb diet, now i have gestational diabetes and i’m keeping my insuline intake on minimum with eating around 120-150g of carbs a day for baby… and breakfast is easy start to a day with max 25g of carbs… that’s what helps me… thank you for such a cool chanel to help to understand libre system and all other advices ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful message ❤️
Mishandled type 2s can behave as type 1s due to their pancreas being destroyed by glucose going crazy for long years…
What I am trying with my mother is placing solid source of soluble fiber to the big meals.
Always less than 20g carbs per meal.
Keep in mind not all carbs are converted to sugar…
So chug a ton of fibers. Soluble ones.
Low GI foods mixed with high ones.
Good fats are your friend too.
She have high cholesterol too so I am trying to start L carnitine with her.
Thanks a lot for this.
@Arvind Bhave No, that is per day. A low carb meal is under 30 gr. A very low carb meal is 20 or less.
