Thank you for being my VEGAN GURU!!! I became vegan 8 weeks ago and I feel amazing! You have been a huge help for me!
Have you heard of the “plate method” or something similar before?
Sadia, your videos are a dream. Every time I log in and see you’ve uploaded a new one, I watch it and feel instantly inspired. And I especially love that you’re sharing your knowledge with us and doing research. I feel like I should be paying you for this service! ❤️
I love that you make veganism so accessible. I often see those vegan youtubers who eat nothing but raw fruit it seems…it turns me away from it. I am going to try it out next week thanks you all your helpful info!
You’re too kind, j bean, thanks for lovely comment 😀
Thank you for the time and effort that you put into the planning of your videos and also the follow ups, as in the notes that you add to “below” its so easy to go back and click onto those features.
Nice video Sadia! I wanted to share with you a little thing. I am an Indian and in India, the plate is called “Thali”. When you order a ‘Thali’ even in restaurants, you get something similar to what you mentioned in this video. You get curried vegetables 2 or 3 different varieties (in small portions, together they are enough as half of the plate), 1 small bowl of daal (lentils), 1 or 2 chapatis (wheat tortillas but a little small in size) and a small portion of rice. Also buttermilk or curd is served with “Thali” in order to digest everything. Same is the traditional way of eating at home. I try to eat as balanced diet as I can and also I try to implement the same for my child. But I cannot manage to make whole “Thali” (plate) for both lunch and dinner. So its managed half and half during both meals.
Again thanks for sharing the video!
Your relaxed and informative style is really great! You present such a complicated topic in a really digestible and practical way! Great job 🙂
This video is so well done! I’m going to watch with my five vegan children and encourage them to get involved with their plating at mealtime! Thank you for such quality work ❤️
I really love this video! Amazing tips and so simple and helpful. Thanks!
Such a great visual guide! I am learning so much and all of your meals look absolutely delicious and beautiful! 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it, Lularoe, thank you! 🙂
Wow you explained everything so well and made it so simple to follow. I am definitely gonna follow the plate plan. Thanks a lot and I am totally in love with your content. 💕
I will definitely try this method! Looks very cool and interesting 😄 Such a good video ❤️
This video is amazing! great to remember to have more veggies than fruit (which i often don’t). I tend to have my calcium through fortified almond milk added to porridge and smoothies bowls but sometimes I don’t have time to make these in the mornings etc. Could you maybe do a video of other ways to incorporate calcium in other meals or snacks? Thanks Sadia!
Five vegan children?? How old are they? How do you get them to stay vegan at school and stuff?
Thanks for this super helpful video, Sadia!!! 🙂 You make it very easy to be a relaxed vegan in terms of nutrition. I have one question: is it necessary to drink fortified milks/ yogurts to get enough calcium? What are the best plant-sources of calcium and is there anything we can do to absorb it better?
Thanks and much love to you <3 <3 <3
katievigil I am also since January 10th vegan and I couldn’t be better!
I haven’t had the same luck. Have to ease into it and figure out what works for me. My gut was a mess eating vegan. Even got heartburn. 🤷🏻♀️
The spike in a potential vit. B12 deficiency comes at around 6 months. See how you feel around that time because this is the time where your body starts running out. Make sure you do regular blood tests in the first 2 years of turning vegan because through unfortunate personal experience I found out that I don’t absorb supplementation and had to revert back to eating meat.
Agreed, I’m so grateful for this being free♥️ (even though “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” – watching a few ads is so much better than paying). I’m so happy Sadia’s channel has blown up cause she truly deserves it
Thank you for making a simple and concise guide for vegans like myself who want to make sure we’re eating right, and also for aspiring vegans!!!
Really comprehensive, excellent information. And I’ve been vegan for almost 8 years now. Beautifully done!
Thank you so much for your amazing videos! However, the thing I am struggling with is portion seizing… could you give me any advice on how much to eat in general or how to find out what’s the right amount for me? That would be great! Best wishes :*
By the way, Canada’s 2019 Food Guide uses the plate method! And the classic glass of milk has been replaced with a glass of water.
who else is going vegan for 2020 haha
I totally agree
I’ve seen Sikh schools in the UK that are vegan, for example. In my country (Portugal) there’s vegan option in the cantine
And they can bring their lunch along
I grew up in Canada also and am really proud of our nutritional guidelines; they refused to consult with outside interests and stuck to recommendations from nutritionists and medical authorities who have studied specifically in this field. Awesome!
I think people are confused what the definition of veganism is: https://www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/definition-veganism (it’s not a diet, it’s a philosophy) She makes the plant-based diet accessible, but hardly ever speaks on animal rights and the ethics of why you ought not consume animal products. She’s a dietitian, not an activist so I get it .. but she doesn’t speak a vegan message.
@ॐ Boi i want to learn this.
I never have liked eat meat, and afther knowing what happens to animals i dont want to eat anithing that comes from an animal. I will never be vegan because i have cats but if i can change my diet i will be more calm. Im not an activist, and im not pushing anyone to do something, just me that i dont want to, and when i go visit someone they understand and are very acomodating and i in no way push someone to do the same.
Child abuse.
Very useful ideas and thanks a lot.
Hi pick up limes, I want to thank you for your kindness to help others and teach proper nutrition and food preparing ❤️ as a new vegan now that I’m also pregnant too I feel scared about not helping myself have the most delicious and nutrient rich/balanced meals and I’ll try my best to use your printable as my rule of thumb as soon as I fix my printer 😂 ❤️ also, do I need to know all the most common foods under each vitamin we require for our bodies or can I just make sure each food group gets its daily serving per day? Also with my breakfast lunch and snacks, do I need to generally have the 1/2 veg/fruit 1/4 whole grains and plant proteins for every singles of three melon meals? Or can I split it up? for example in the breakfast I get my 1/2 serving of fruit then for lunch/dinner veggies would be my 1/2 serving on my plate? Does every plate (generally) need a source of protein/while grains? I also feel bad about not knowing/trying enough wide varieties of vegetables! How can I safely expand my pallet without being scared I won’t like it? Can anyone else help me out with opinions too in case pickuplimes doesn’t answer me back? I need all the support and help I can get my vegan friends as I’m still learning in the kitchen to provide for my family 🍴 👨🍳 ❤️ I want to be the best mommy I can be and that starts with health/nourishment 🤱🏻
I’m not vegan 🌱 I’m pescatarian but I eat mostly plant based and people think I just eat tofu and salad all day 😫😅 but I actually eat a healthy colorful diet
Yeh being vegan doesnt mean they eat raw vegetables and fruits all times😂 it simply means all the food items we eat is based on plant products
@Nadia Dima It’s so odd how it differs from person to person. Cause animals are also supplemented with vitamin b12. So in the end it’s still supplementation. And it’s confusing lol. Cause I’ve heard of people who eat meat still having b12 deficiencies. I want to eat less meat but worry about things like this.
Oh hi friends.. I thought I was alone 😂
Hi there,
I, personally, would recommend to adopt (even if it means making small changes here and there) a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (consuming raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please take some steamed carrots, plant them and see if they will grow; if not, it is because they are ‘dead’ plant food that cannot benefit one’s ‘living’ cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains as it is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. I do not even see a reason to use pharmaceutical supplements e.g Vitamin D is obtainable from organic chestnut mushrooms (UV exposed) and sun-dried mushrooms with the exception of the body’s ability to make it (and store it for future use) when exposed to the sun; Iron from organic beets; Zinc from organic cashew nuts; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas; Omega 3 Fatty Acids (beneficial for the brain) from organic walnuts and pecans (looks like the brain and targets it).
Please avoid factory produced meat alternatives whose chief ingredient can be ‘soy’ and may contain preservatives as well as additives (e.g Vinegar, a corrosive agent). Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency (e.g white bread, white rice and white sugar) are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body’s building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic stuff, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.
Best wishes

Hi there,
Milk, for instance, cows milk is designed for calves as opposed to mankind. It may also contain puss and blood, which are not good to consume. Water on the other hand is the best liquid to quench one’s thirst , hydrate cells and flush out germs, harmful chemicals, toxins, viruses and other pollutants.
