I recently learned I have TMJ and I am happy to know that I can correct my symptoms without having surgery.
Thanks for this information. A dentist punctured my husband’s jaw muscle. So hopefully this info will help.
Thank you Waleed for sharing your thoughts on the topic with me.
What learned is that if u have TMD or even when u don’t, to prevent it, we shouldn’t chew on things that are hard and chewy like beef jerky, nuts, popcorn because we normally eat a lot of it and so we constantly chew…. and so gum is not good either for the TMJ. and you don’t want to open your mouth too wide like when you’re eating an apple so you may just want to cut apple instead of opening your mouth so wide. pretty much you shouldn’t open your mouth as wide as you can because it’s not good for it. When you’re yawning you shouldnt open your mouth too wide as well. In about the nightguard that Dr. ax mentioned, I recommend seeing an oral surgeon or a TMJ specialist instead of just a regular dentist.. A lot of the dentist that I have seen gives the wrong night guard that makes people want to clench more. I don’t recommend the night guard that you can buy at the store. I recommend that you get a lower arch full coverage flat plane hard acrylic with balanced contact
Oh and also that night guard needs to be checked every maybe six months depending on the doctor but it needs to be checked to make sure that there is no dents, it needs to stay flat. your upper teeth isn’t supposed to find a resting place on that night guard.
Also depending on what is causing your TMD, sometimes some people benefitfrom seeing an orthodontist.
Love your videos! Thank you, Dr. Axe!
I have this problem for around 3 years. I am vegetarian so I eat all those food you mentioned and I eat wild fish, specially salmon. I don’t grime my teeth at night, no bad posture, no chew gum or anything that is hard.. And the pain is still here and getting worse.
Have you been tested for food allergies/intolerants? It may not be the answer for you but worth looking into I get tmj/headaches/silent reflux when I eat gluten or certain grains. But for me when it happens I do clench in my sleep probably as a response to the reflux
Thank you so much for the help. I already loss some of my teeth from decay and the last tooth was probably from Tmj. Not sure. I had pain thought it was the root. This time it’s on the right top. I have dystonia and I noticed I clinch my teeth to try keep my head still when I go places. I also grind or clinch my teeth in sleep. I will try these remedies before going back to the dentist. I’ve also tried the remedy for tooth pain you have with salt water and cloves. It helps. Can you do a video sometime about cervical dystonia? God Bless.
There is so much more to tmj than this. I’ve been dealing with this for 21 yrs. chiros made me worse. This may work for people in the beginning stages but tmj is a very complex condition.
Thanks for sharing your health tips..! 🙂
I guess the reason why I have TMJ nw is because I always chew in one side. I thought chewing a gum all the time will cure it but since i chew in 1 side only i think it made it worst.. thank you for this video.. 😊
This is me everyday of my life!
And my dentist wanted me to spend over $5,600 on treatments and an appliance I’m glad I’m researching my self-help treatments first!
I have had a headache that lasts all day for the past 72 hours and getting worse. Within 1 day of watching this video, taking the magnesium and exercises has helped me immensely. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Ivette Guarin sister would you help me? doctor has told me I hv to surgery 🙈
TMJ disorder is making my life miserable for a week now, I did bunch of research and I’ve heard that most people who have TMJ are women suffering for years and years, and it scares me so much knowing that the pain will not go away as easy like toothache. I’m trying to massage my jaw gently like every 20 minutes, relax my mind, and it’s helping me to ease the pain for some time but the pain gets back again when I open my mouth to eat and also when I wake up in the morning. How can I avoid stressing myself if at this point of my life, this disorder is the most stressful feeling I’ve ever had.
Shanna777 dude how can you even smile after having this
In today’s world where medical industry looks at patients as clients and not as patients a few messengers like him are definitely a ray of hope
Can ringing in ears be a symptom of TMJ ? I started my TMJ issues eating chewing gum back to back for 3 days in order to relieve clogged ears from sinus infection. The ringing has considerably gone down in a month. I guess it will completely go away as the jaw heals back. What do you suggest ?
Hey I’m now taking b.c powders.as well as massaging my face it works.also lay flat because your mouth or neck don’t need no more stress.so try to lay flat on your back and tug on your ears lie 4tugs on each side.and sometimes keep you some really warm water to hold in your mouth.now I hope you get some sleep.
I’ma go buy safe guard tomorrow.this tmj ugh I don’t even know how I got it.i had to take a b.c power it’s 3:27am😖
I have hormonal TMJ. It’s so painful. I get it the first day or my cycle and it goes on for 2-3 days. I also chew on one side of my mouth because I had a tooth pulled years ago. So the pain is on the side I DONT chew on.
Thanks for the amazing tmj tips!
A big fan of Dr Axe just sent me this healing video. I have been suffering from TMJ for over 6 months. I don’t have clicking any more but the stiffness and pain in my jaw is pretty bad. I am grateful for this video.
not all tmj is due to misalignment
SPARK INVESTMENTS yes ringing May be caused by tmj! Ive had constant ringing in my right ear for almost a year! I saw a specialist and turns out I have tmj which caused it to add pressure to the nerve near my ear. I didn’t even have much tmj symptoms in my jaw. I had everything else except jaw pain such as sinus type pressure in my face, Pain behind eye, ringing, dizziness and ear feeling full.
hormonal tmj? Ive never heard of that
SPARK INVESTMENTS -I totally agree with you.
Ive been suffering with TMJ for a long time 13 years, all ive been told by Dr.s is to take Ibuprofen, or to get botox on Jaw muscle. Im so glad I found this video
I went to a tmjd dentist today, my only symptoms is jaw noise when I chew like a knocking sound, more so when i move my jaw sideways, not so much opening my mouth. I have no pain, no movement problem. I can open my mouth wide. I have been eating peanuts nonstop for 3 months. I had insomnia for 4 days and other issues causing me to be more tensed…. ANYWAYS, the dentist told me to WAIT and SEE approach for 3 weeks since I have no pain and it just started a week ago. Told me I may just have little muscle inflammation that can also cause jaw popping/clicking. I AM NOT CONVINCED. THEY DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT MY MOUTH. SHOULD i FIND ANOTHER TMJD DENTIST?
angie p he mentioned that people having TMJ needs protein and needs to eat Bone Broth Soup. I guess that’s what you’re missing in your diet. Bone broth contains a lot of vitamins and minerals which you don’t find it vegetarian diet.
1. Chew on both sides
2. Posture
3. Reduce stress. Lavander or peppermint on jaw. Night guard
3. Anti- inflammatory diet. Dr axe food lists. Get omega 3 on fish. Dark chocolates. Magnesium.
4. Bone broth
5. Natural pain relievers. Peppermint or lavander. Dr axe muscle. Peppermint oil. Hot cold. 1 min messager with the oil on jaw and neck. Ginger.
@Tessa Gatchalian bone broth contains collagen so i wonder if collagen supplements help.. i know glucosamine and chondroitine (idk if that s how it s spelled) help joints in general but i wonder if it works for tmj.
@Beverly Marsh yes Glucosamine/Chondrotin helps, but I take Dexil… it has Selicium. I also take gelatin or NC2 (native collagen ll). I’m almost healed 95%. 10months been suffering. But I’m now in my last stage… I could open my mouth completely. The only thing that’s bothering me is still nerves/muscles/ligaments that are sometimes getting tense or feeling compressed, but I feel no pain though. Just a pinch nerves. Also one thing that helps is taking antioxidant. I drink lots of BlackBerry juice.
@Tessa Gatchalian interesting! I found a supp that has collagen, glucosamine/chondroitin, MSM, turmeric and thought of getting it. Im also thinkin a mouth guard for day time cause i clench my teeth at times. Thanks for replying!!
Thank you 🙂
@M Mmm I’m very similar to you, have you found anything that helps with the ringing yet thanks.
