I think an issue with using dry weight as a visual for things like pasta is that they increase rather substantially in volume and weight after being cooked. Not saying pasta ain’t calorie dense and that you shouldn’t be mindful of how much you eat as it is easy to over eat it, but, I’ve always found using dry weight and not showing the correlating cooked pasta to be a hit missleading.
I agree, this is one of the reasons I never made rice before, but I realized they expand so much and now it’s one my favorite side dishes
I think it’s useful because this is the amount you see before putting it in the saucepan. Whereas if you’re looking at 100 calories of cooked pasta then you don’t really have a visual of how much you need to use in the first place.
It’s general knowledge it expands 👍
@Xaimond Same here for a while, I avoided rice and pasta like the plague. I’d look at a measured portion of dry rice or pasta and be like “that’s so little.” But I know better now LOL.
@Jonathan Clarke I 100% agree that it’s the best visual aid for portioning. It’s just that for myself, I know that seeing how little a dry 100 calls worth of pasta amounted to messed with my perception of it as it really made me want to avoid it cause it made me fearful of how easy it would be to overeat it. Ultimately, I just wish I’d see more videos showing what 100 cals of pasta dry vs cooked looks like as much as I see the videos demonstrating what 100 cals of dry foods looks like.
I found veggie pasta here in America and low calorie pasta so you can have more 👏🏼
I like butternut squash or zucchini spaghetti. A whole bag is only 130 calories plus your veggies are increased a lot
Didn’t you put videos up showing how different pasta is uncooked Vs cooked
Pasta is literally made of grain already?
@Gumlus Idk it’s less calories than traditional pasta so you can have more volume
im the only one bulking
@Gumlus less calorie dense flour using different vegetables?
I eat around 1000 cals worth of pasta every Sunday
I eat at least 40,000 calories of pasta. By the way I live in a black house so when you see the giant silver pot you already know what you are going to be eating for the next week
And it’s not pasta…
Who eats unboiled dry pasta ? 😂
Depending on the cooking time, it will expand 1x – 1,5x times 😊
Thank you. I just started counting my calories!
doesn’t mean the calories change lmao
we still can eat like 50g of pasta (200kal) same chicken (protein) and veggies , so like 500kal for meal is good , i think 🙂
@NearChannel2576 it depends on what you measure ,but yes it does. 30 g dry pasta has a different calorie content than 30g boiled pasta due to the water content.
There’s pasta that only has 5 calories per serving.
@Steffen Petersen what are you saying here? Either you’re saying water contains calories which is nonsense or 30g of cooked pasta and 30g of dry pasta have different calories in which case yeah obviously because they’re a different amount of pasta
@Dominic decoco that is exactly what i wrote dude. Water just add bulk, it has no calories.
Once I heard that a meal with less than 500kcal is not a meal, it’s a snack. And I quite agree with it.
Why Sunday
Hey,please remeber that pasta has way less calories when you cook it.
Yes it absorbs water while cooking.
staying under 1600 is the goal to
@Steffen Petersennow tell me who tf weighs their food AFTER they cook it?
And this is why i don’t include it in my meal plan unless I have been very strict for breakfast and lunch. (May sound bad idk) but I would rather have more of something that is less dense because let’s be honest, that’s literally just enough pasta for a baby 🤣🫣
@Fernando Hernandez your goal*
56g pasta, some sliced cherry tomatoes and broccoli rabe sauteed in olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes, under 500 calories, filling and delicious.
Cheat day
actually chicken is not pure protien but whereas pasta is almost pure carbs you can eat even more chicken and get less kals
@Norwegianwood 🤣kind of yeah
@ehuss Sunday is a holiday here
56 grams of pasta is 200 calories and when it’s done boiling it expands to a much larger quantity which actually can be filling when you add protein and vegetables like bell peppers. I still eat pasta even when I’m trying to lose weight
No wonder when I binge pasta I also bloat up 10 pounds 🥲
Yes this happened to me. I weighed the uncooked pa set a to 56 grams which is 200 calories. But when I cooked it, it was way too much food. So I used like half of it. I measured the cooked pasta and it came out to 18 grams and I had 14 grams of steak. Do u know how many calories I ate? If u could help me out I’d appreciate it. I’m so confused 😭
I counted it, 24 pasta pieces on there lol
Great for a pasta salad
Also what to know from this: pasta is great if you don’t have alot of food and just need to get by
O m ggggg 😢that is NOT what I’ve been cooking 😅
It’s crazy how much pasta is served at restaurants, the first time I weighed out pasta at home I was in shock how many calories I was eating ordering pasta when I was out to eat
Bro did you guys notice the reduced calorie pasta they used to sell in stores is gone? Every store stopped selling it. It was literally half the calories and I don’t know why it’s gone. It makes me so sad.
